My Room...

Question Posted Tuesday July 12 2005, 5:23 am

Okay, so I desperately need to redecorate my room, and I have maybe $200 to do it tops, and I can't get furniture.

I have a navy blue shag carpet which is not leaving. I have a white ceiling, and sky blue walls, which I want to paint wither purple brown, or some other color (lol insert suggestion here).

I have white and silver and light wood (idk what kind) furniure, also not leaving.

Can you please help me figure out colors and websites to plan a perfect room.

Oh and also, I am making a huge (6 ft diameter/like 2 meters) floor pillow, so I have room to relax...Also, if you have a ny rganizational tips that I could use, that would be appreciated x2!!

Okay first what you need to do is obviosly see how much room you have for this project and you should experiment with it. Go to Hgtv.com and click on decorating and then on the right hand side there will be links click on roomplanner you can experiment planning your room. For your room you should divide it into sections. Relaxing section, entertaining section, homework section etc. The best room color I think would be a light blueish gray but if you like hot colors like red and yellow etc. you should go for a yellowy color or something like that! I'm not really sure what will really go with silver and light wood in the red and yellow color section but you should def. use like a light blue for your bedsheet and light blue and light gray accessories. But first what I would do is go and pick a comforter from ikea (for more info go to ikea.com) and pick a simple cool colored bed sheet which arent expensive at all and go from there. If this doesn't work for you leave me one in my inbox okay I'm sure I could def. help you because I love designing!

You could paint your walls Orange and lime green and just alternate the colors on the walls and then get hott pink paint and make designs on your wall and then just get things to match those!!

i think that Maybe a Lilac colour or a cream. dark colours make your room look Smaller if its all ready small then definatley dont use those types of colours. These are the colours i think you should concider
1. Cream
2. Lilac
They look good with white, silver or light wood furniture and blue carpet.

Bedroom Make a mattress and box spring look like a four-poster bed: Attach hooks to the ceiling above the four corners of the bed, and drape gauzy fabric from hook to hook. Make matching curtains and hang from metal rings on a wrought-iron rod. $150

You know, that's a toughie with that blue shag carpet in there. I remember I once had hideous red shag carpet in my room. We just tore it out and put hard wood floors in there... however it was quite costly and you might want to know what's under the carpet before you actually rip it up.

You could easily paint your walls and your cieling any color that you want, however if you go with purple or tan like you were thinking, it might not go with the carpet, in which case you might want to invest in a large rug to place over your carpet. Again, those can be costly as well.

It's really quite hard for me to tell you how to decorate your room. Each room should reflect the individual living in it. I don't know what styles you like(down-to-earth, chic, funky, country), and what colors you're more drawn to... but I can offer a few websites with great information for any style you are going for.

And please remember... while you have $200 at the moment, you don't have to get your whole room done with just that $200. Slowly acquire what you need for your room, even if it is more pricey rather than something that's not as great and will just fall apart in a couple years.
