Whatever you put on your column, please do not include graphics such as icons and flashing glittery pictures. That just slows down the loading process of your column and they are quite annoying. Add some colors to your column, maybe a simple background?

Go to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) for some color codes and use the color codes to change link colors, etc. But my advice would be, don't have too many things on it (like graphics, glitter graphics, etc.) other wise its too much.
