Well, I have Ares, maybe I could be of some help.

When you get onto it, you will get a warning about the type of software Ares is etc. Wait until the top of the window says you are online then click on 'search'. On the left is a search box, type in the song or artist you want then click 'search now'. A list of all the track that come under that artist/song will come up. Choose one and double click on it. Now click 'transfer', you will be able to see the progress of the track you have chosen. Once it is fully completed, double click on it and it should play.

If you want to play it in another program such as Windows Media player, then click on 'locate file' and it will show you where the music file is saved so you can just play it on any music player you have on your computer.

EDIT: You added information that clearly said you weren't burning a CD and that you just wanted to get songs from the software. I apologise if I didn't answer your question but the information you submitted made your question unclear. To answer the question you wanted an answer to, you cannot burn a CD without a burner.

Sorry, but you can't burn CDs withouth a CD burner, just like you can't play CDs without a CD player or dirve.

When you buy a bunner, it comes with software to burn CDs.
