on this booklet about puberty..it says your first period should last between 3-7 days. but mine has lasted 12 days! and it's still kind of heavy..but it's dirty brown which should mean it's getting old. but is that weird?

Well it is weird but it does not mean that there is a problem. Everyone mentrual cycles are differnt. If you have no other symptoms besides bleeding longer than expected, then I think all is well. If there were a problem, you would be in pain, I mean besides monthly cramps. Yes you are right that because the blood is brown, that it is old blood. I would not judge your cycle by your first menses. Now your next cycle should occur 28 days from the day this one started, so don't be surprised if you have your period again in two weeks. Some girls never get regulated and they go one the pill to help them regulate their periods. If you have other symptoms, let me know. I 'll do more research.
