Damn hun, that does really suck. First consider one thing: Who is more important? You and your friend? Or you and this girl getting together? Because obviously either way someone ends up getting screwed over. This mostly depends on how the girl feels. Since you said she and your friend went to prom together, I'm guessing they just went as friends. So try and find out how the girl thinks of your friend and you. If she likes him alot then you should really back down, but if she likes both of you then that will be a big problem. I have been in this kind of situation before. I had been friends with this guy, and I knew he really liked me and I was sort of into him but then his friend came along. And I started realizing I like him too. I didn't want to mess up the friendship of the two guys (they had been friends since kindergarten), but I didn't want to just be friends with both of them. Everything, luckily, worked itself out and the one guy that really liked me moved on to another girl, so when me and his friend hooked up he had no problem with it. But I don't think that will happen here. Just think of it this way and ask yourself: How long have you liked this girl? What do you like about her? How well do you know her? Is she worth the risk of screwing up a good friendship? If she is worth it, then don't lay off. Try to figure out how she feels about you and your friend. And if she turns out liking you then the worst part is going to be breaking it to your friend. He is going to feel totally betrayed. So if you and this girl end up getting together just be prepared to possibly lose a friend. Hopefully your friend will realize that it is not the end of the world and you guys can still be friends. I hope my advice helps you. Good luck! ~Sherah
