i have my party in 2 weeks and my period is supposed to come on that day! it would be horrible because there will be swimming ..! im desperate to delay it...if i dont drink anything for 5 days...or keep it very minimal..do you think it will delay my period? wont the body naturally not allow my period to come on time so it will keep the extra fluid? any way i can delay my period? dont say birth control because that wont delay it for another 2 months..it takes time or something for it to work..
Crystal49 answered Saturday June 4 2005, 7:47 pm: Not drinking anything or drinking minimal amounts will probably end up being worse for you in the end. I'd advise you to keep drinking.
I do however have some solutions for you. You could take Norethisterone Tablets(or any other tablets that contain progestogen, which is the horomone that sustains the lining of the uterus.)You take them 3-4 days before the expected date of your period and they allow you to delay it for up to 2 weeks. There are some minor side effects but nothing too bad.
There are herbs and stuff (I've heard parsley works...?) that say they will delay periods, I'm not sure if they actually work though...just another option for you to look into.
aliciadear answered Saturday June 4 2005, 6:45 pm: excersize makes it slow down, but it could still come. you can still swim at your party and stuff if you wear a tampon, thats what i do becaause im a swimmer and i cant just take time off every month. JazzY answered Saturday June 4 2005, 6:44 pm: Well you really need to drink something! You will get dehydrated if you don't. You might want to take long baths or showers, those stop your period from a small ammount of time. If you DO get it at the party, you can always wear a tampon. It will be fine. Good luck.

And would youR Mom Really be willing to pay foR that when she could moRe easily say.. "use a tampon"??? OtheR than that, theRe's nothing you can do to delay it. It's tRue that if you have little food/wateR intake oveR a couRse of time youR body will lack the nutRition it needs to Run pRopeRly, and youR peRiod will *eventually stop, but I'm pRettie shoRe that'll take a month oR too befoRe it will kick in. Michele answered Saturday June 4 2005, 6:30 pm: NO, if you don't drink any fluids for five days, you'll get dehydrated, and get sick, and won't be able to go to the party. A really hot bath, the morning of the party may help. Sit in it for a while and clean yourself out down there. Maybe douching will help to flush out some additional fluid. This may just buy you a couple of hours though.
I found this additional info on a ob/gyn website
Whenever flow is heavy, start taking ibuprofen, the over-the-counter anti-prostaglandin, in a dose of one 200mg tablet every 4-6 hours while you are awake. This therapy decreases flow by 25-30% and will also help with menstrual cycle-like cramps. [ Michele's advice column | Ask Michele A Question ]
