Skateboarding

Question Posted Saturday May 28 2005, 11:48 pm

Hi,
I'm new to skateboarding, and I'd like to have some tips. I know the basics of skating, what it means to skate "normal" or "goofy", how to turn and I'm working on the Ollie. But, I need help perfecting it. I'm nervous when trying to jump with the Ollie, and I'm still having trouble steering (a little bit). I can jump off my board, turn a 180 and land (I forgot what that's called), too. What would be a good next trick to learn, and how can I master the basic Ollie, and just skating around?

Thanks!

Well.. I should be able to help. Um when doing a "ollie" you want to square your back foot on the tail and your front foot at a very small angel about a inch below the front bolts. This gives you control over the board, When doing the trick snap down on the tail as hard as you can and at the same time slide your front foot up toward the nose Right when you get to the end of the nose bring your knees up to increase the height of your ollie then level it out and land on the bolts so that you dont break your board. You shouldnt be nervous trying to land it because your not that high off the ground and the only bad thing that can really happen is maybe missing the board or landing and the board shooting out but thats not that bad if you catch yourself. And jumping "off" your board and turning 180 is called a "Body Varial" If the board is rotating the opposite way of your body it is called a "Sex change". Um the nexy good trick and basic TRICKS not just trick to learn would be Kickflip, Heelflip, Popshovit, Fakie, Fakie kickflip, Fakie heelfip, Fakie shovits, And 180's front and backside. I hope i helped you out a little bit..

To get more used to steering and just getting more comfortable with skating, i think you should start using your skateboard as a form of transportation, and as often as you can. When ollie-ing, hit your backfoot on the end of the board as hard as you can while sliding your front foot up to get a higher ollie. Next I reccomend learning a slappy pop shove it, so you can master a real pop shove it. google it :)
Hope this helps :)!!

Well for your ollie if u have a carpeted room that isnt inportant practice it in there. and for steering make sure you lean in turns and for good practice. I would say just go behind a local shopping center with some friends and then try grinding and stuff. i hope i helped =]

Hey! I'm Liz!! I would love to try to help you!!!! First of all it's totally cute that you want to skateboard! Maybe you could ask your parents if you could get private lessons somewhere so you could prefect it! Then you could have fun with your friends and try to teach them! I really don't know any skateboarding stuff lol and im sorry for that! But you could rent some Tony Hawk stuff and like get your private lesson person and watch it over and over and you could try one of his and im hey you never know that person that is teaching you things could give you some pointers! Try to take it from there. I sure hope i helped you. :)
