However, this doesn't mean it's safe. You can get all sorts of malware through the stuff you download if you're not careful, but if you have a good AV (as well as the usual protectors such as Spybot and Ad-aware) then you'll be fine. 1. Letting the firewall down to install ILLEGAL music is not really the best idea.

dreamingkat answered Monday May 2 2005, 11:25 pm: Yes and No. Any time you use the internet, even with a firewall, there is some risk involved. File sharing is always a little more risky than say, web browsing with a browser other than internet explorer. If you only unblock the port or ports that limewire requests, you are as safe as you can be while still using a file sharing program.
Limewire has had security holes in the past, but to my knowledge, they have all been fixed. Still, it's a good idea to check for updates regularly, and only install the program from the official limewire site.
Also, if your file sharing, you should have both an anti-virus program and a spyware detector installed. It's also a good idea to regularly check your windows add/remove programs box for things that you didn't install.
x3kendall answered Monday May 2 2005, 8:40 pm: It should be safe, the same thing happened when I downloaded itunes. I just unblocked it and everything is fine, but to be safe you should probably scan Limewire for any viruses after you download it.
