I have braces as well and when I first got them I had cuts and sores all in my mouth. But there are many things you can do to help. Just go to Walmart or Target and look down the orthepidic section for different creams and stuff. You just apply is on the sore spot in your mouth and the swelling goes down a lot. (My bottom lip looked like i got sucker punched and it swelled like a balloon, but creams make it back to the normal size. works like a charm.)
Im order to keep your braces from cutting your mouth again ask your dentist/orthadontist for wax. He will explain everything to do.

Make sure you keep the area clean (as you're doing) and use mouthwash or a salt/water mix to gargle and swish around in your mouth. This will 1) Keep the area disinfected, which would lead to further discomfort and 2) Help heal the wound faster. Hope you feel better soon!
