Question Posted Monday April 25 2005, 8:41 pm

the other day in history we were working on a section for Indians. and i think that we , as americans or whites, owe them so much! like land and money! because of everything that we have done! and they have a high suicide and alcaholism rate too! and they are on little crappy reservations! its horrible!!

if anyone on here is am Indian, i am so sorry! and I feel so bad! anyone agree or know what I could do?

thanks so much!

There's really nothing you can do. You can't change history. And as was noted before, it's not as if Native Americans were the only race to ever suffer unfair treatment and hardship. Hell, even white people faced unfair treatment when the colonists first came over.

History will repeat itself unless we learn from it. As a single person, you could never provide reparations for the entire race, but you could at least learn from past mistakes so they are not repeated. And by looking at the tone of this question, you already have.

I see your view clearly, but think back in history. there are SO many groups o people who were terribly mistreated.

The jews were enslaved (i forgett by who...either the eygyptians or the turks?) thousands of yesars ago...and then look at the holocaust.

There was the blacks being enslaved...that was pretty terrible

communists

terrorists

there must be plenty more i cant think of..but man groups of people have went trhough terrible things in the past.

the important thig is we have resolved them (mostly) and its in the past

First off, they aren't Indians, that is an incorrect name given to them by Columbus when he thought he stopped his ship in India. Hence, theres Indians from India and Native Americans were the native American people.

I understand how you weel, but just in what you've written like, "we, as americans or whites" you basically just said that everyone reading this was white or american. You should have said non-native american because america is so diverce.

Other then that I totally understand what you mean. They do have Indian reserves though. I guess you could contribute or help them.

Yes, true we owe a lot because we came and kicked them off their land, but we've also done a lot to help them. In lots of places in the U.S gave them the right to sell tabacco without tax. I see where you are comming from the cons outweigh the pros.
