Period Probs.

Question Posted Wednesday April 20 2005, 3:27 pm

OK. I usually have a really heavy flow. Today, blood soaked all the way through my pad, through my underwear, and through my pants!!!! I was so embarassed! Second, i feel like i smell bad during my period. What can i do to control the smell other than changing the pad frequently, because i do. Should i wear perfume?

I could use some help.

Try scented pads or a tampon! if u use scented pads it will cover up the odor but then the only problem is the leaking thing! the tampons will not leak as easily but you have to change them more often than pads purfume would help also but youd have to put a lot on

Try wearing a SCENTED pad and a tampon. That way whatever the tampon doesn't catch, the pad will, or get the really thick pads if you aren't using them already. There are specific brands for each type of flow. Try out the scented pads for a few days (or odor-protcetion, they're the same thing) and if you still feel like you smell, bring a little perfume to school or spray it on your pants in the morning. I haven't ever had to do this, but I'm pretty sure it'll work.

Try Alway's long and super for the pad problem, or any brand of long or extra long and super, and try to "feel" to make sure your protected. Secondly, with the odor problem, take a quick shower every night that you have your period, you can even put your hair up, and just rinse off. It usually helps alot, and on the perfume thing, if you want, you can just spray a little bit in that area, but spray a little on the rest of you too, and most likely people don't smell the odor, so you are probably okay in that department =] If you need anything else, just message me! Hope I've Helped! ♥

Wearing perfume will only mask the scent, not actually help get rid of it.

You're on the right track by changing your pads frequently. If you're soaking through sooner than 4 hours, then change it more often if possible. Also, make sure you buy bigger pads, like the long or overnight ones, for your heavy flow days.

The best way to get rid of the smell is to shower often. Make sure that you shower every day while you've got your period, and when you shower wash yourself really well down there.

You might be ready to try tampons. Talk to your mom or another woman in your life about it. Tampons smell less and are less messy than pads. You can get tampons in varying sizes, just like pads.

Tampax makes tampons called "Teen Satin" that are really good for younger users. Or anything with a plastic applicator (like Playtex Gentle Glide or Tampax Pearl) is usually pretty easy to use.

Chances are, you're the only person who notices that you smell. As long as you keep your legs crossed and keep changing your pads (or tampons), you'll probably be fine.

Just remember- every woman goes through this. Just looking at statistics- chances are 1 in 4 women everywhere you go also have their period. :)

This is totally a girl problem so thats why I anwsered. I am a girl and I have extremly heavy flows too. To slow down my flow I put two fluffy pillows under my feet when I sleep, or you can do anything that would elevate your feet up. I works trust me. Maybe while you are at school you should use maxi pads. Those work too. As for the smell there is nothing you can do to get it to go away so you might want to try a perfume to cover it. And don't get to worried unless you have it for longer than 2 weeks or if it comes back every week. I hope I could help. But remember when you have the pillows under your feet that you keep them there every night until your period goes away.

Well I never had that happen to me but there are pads for that. Get oder free pads or tampons. The best kind is like Tampax. You could spray perfume but i dought that it will work. Take baths reguarly and just use deorderant. Use lotion and stuff so you smell good no matter what. x0

Don't worry, it's normal to have a smell during your period. If you want to hide the smell other than changing the pad, you should use a scented pad. Always Maxi has scented pads. Or you can start wearing tampons if you had your period for a while but if you feel comfortable wearing pads, then continue wearing them. I wouldn't wear perfume, maybe a body splash from Victoria's Secret or Bath and Body Works or just an ordinary spray.
