Question Posted Saturday April 9 2005, 7:08 pm

I have a kitten that is about 7 months now and just last month she went into heat. I understand that this period lasts for about 2 weeks when they are acting not like themselves. Well now just a few days ago she came into heat again, I also understand they go into heat about twice a year, well why is she going into her second period so soon? Also, she follows Boo (our 3 year old female cat)around the house making these weird, annoying, constant, chirpping noises. Me, being her "mom" can't go anywhere without her following behind me, unless she is bothering Boo and doing what my mother calls "assuming the position" I can't even go to the bathroom for 2 seconds without her throwing a fit of loud howls. My questions are: Why is this happening so close to the last on? And why does she constantly need my attention? I give her LOADS everyday all ready, this cat is my baby! Another thing is she a lesbein for following my female cat around and "assuming the position"? She hasn't been outside in a while and we don't own any male cats just 3 girls. Please help me!

Cat go into heat more often than twice a year. In fact, just a few weeks ago, I volunteered at a spay/neuter clinic to spay and neuter homeless cats and help them get homes. One female that was spayed had two sets of kittens in her, at different stages. Both sets of litter were aborted (some people think it's mean, but I'd much rather save one older cat, than bring ten or twenty more homeless feral cats into the world.)

Anyway, so this means a cat is able to get pregnant, while they're still pregnant. So, they can also go into heat right after she was previously in heat.

Please, please get her spayed. It will stop her from going into heat, stop her from "assuming the position", stop her from needing constant attention, and as an added benefit, it will cut her chances of getting ovarian cancer as she gets older.

She needs your attention because she's in heat and feels her maturnal instincts calling to her. She is calling for a male cat to come and have his way with her.

Is she a lesbian? I think your cat just wants any kind of action she can get. There are no male cats around for her to get it, so she goes for the female of the house.
That question is irrelevant anyway.

So... don't let her outside, and get her spayed as soon as possible. Please.
