Curling Iron:
First, you need to choose the barrel size you would like. For smaller curls cut a .5 inch barrel and so on and so forth. The high number you go, the bigger the the number hence bigger the curls. Before I got a Chi curler, I used one I got from Walgreen for 9.99. It worked really well too. So don't worry that you aren't going to get great results based on place of purchase or brand.
When you turn on your curling iron, alow it to get hot, but not like crazy hot. That is often why you will find that the curl doesn't curl but rather bend and crease on you. That looks bad. So try not to let that happen. Remember, the smaller the size, the less time it takes to fully heat up.
To make it so that your curls stay locked in all day or at least for a good amount of hours, try using Matrix's Thermal Active Setting Spray by Biolage. It's about $10-15 a bottle and is available at Sally Beauty Supply, you hair salon, or Ulta. It works as a hair setter that locks in your look, without making your hair feel stiff or flake on you.
Apply a spritz or two to your curling iron.
Instead of taking like 5 million hours to curl your hold head, put yours hair in a high pont tail and take it in sections and spray those sections lighting with the Thermal Active setting spray and curl, for looser curls, press on the clamp when curling, for tighter just hold it there.
Repeat for all sections and spray a little more spray to finsih up.
For hair roller, night or hot, you basically do the exact same thing. Put your hair in a high pony tail, after it's COMPLETELY DRY. Divide in sections wrap hair around curlers, apply spray, and YAY! Pretty hair!
