Question Posted Saturday November 13 2004, 4:32 am
I think my family is falling apart. My 10 year old sister has ADHD and she's always screaming and yelling at me and my parents. There are around 6 arguments a day on a bad day and 3 on a good day. Right now my parents are arguing over her. My Dad says he's going to leave soon. Everyone is always screaming abuse at each other and it's like she has the power over us. I'm really scared that one of my parents will leave and never come back. I don't know what to do. My sister sees a counciller but it's not helping. She threatens to do all sorts of things to us and she scares me. I really need help, please answer.

MFS answered Sunday November 14 2004, 9:24 pm: I'm really not sure what you can do if things are that volatile. At best, try to calmly express your concerns to your parents separately, when they are not in a heated argument or screaming match. It sounds like more than your sister needs to see a councellor - the whole family could use some work. I don't really understand what a councellor can do for ADHD as it isn't a social condition but a chemical imbalance - thus it can be treated medically through a drug, assuming that she really is ADHD and not just conscientiously problematic.
