I live in a multiple unit house that has shared washer and dryer in the basement. The washer is hooked to one floors electric. The dryer to the 2nd floor. The third floor tenant is paying no cost. How can we split the cost up between floors fairly? Are there meters we can put on the appliances? Rewiring techniques? Appreciate any options to split the cost.

I assume that each "apartment" has its own breaker box, and that the building itself has a main breaker that controls those sub-breakers? If so, re-wire to have the washer and dryer on the main breaker? As I think about this, that might not be possible... eh, it's a thought.<br>

Aside from rewiring, the meters might be your best bet. I still think there may be a way to re-wire things, but this would require knowing how the electrical is divided up in the first place between the tennants / sub-units. [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]
