new guitar

Question Posted Tuesday October 19 2004, 10:48 pm

i've been playing guitar for a while now, and think i should take a step up from my junk old one. i don't have the deepest pockets, but might be able to manage around $400 after a while. I'm not so much into the les paul or stratocaster hype and am looking for something different and good, but not too gothic looking, my main choices so far are the fender cyclone, the ESP viper, and the epiphone flying V. any suggestions are appreciated, thanks

Well I have a Crate and i have to say that thing kicks ass. Its only about $150 in the pack thing that comes with an amp, picks, a strap, and a power chord. Im going to be getting a B.C. Rich Warlock soon too but that might be a little too "Gothic Looking" for you.

GET A LES PAUL!!! They are so heavy, but they are incredible guitars, made out of good quality material. If you need proof of that, listen to the newer AFI CD's... Jade plays a les paul, and its absolutely incredible. Don't get a fender. Those things aren't that great...

the ESP viper is pretty similar to a Gibson SG...which happens to be an awesome guitar if you get an actual gibson, not an epiphone (cheap shit.) But a real SG will require a shitload (we're talking like 900 bucks at the least for a new one..)of cash, and that...you do not have. i think you should just look at this site (www.samash.com)...they have some pretty good prices there...

but if you do want a guitar suggestion...i like the brownsville bat...even though i've never played one, it's so cool looking.

Try doing some of that stuff until you have enough money to get a new one.

Hey! I play guitar too, if you want a rock sound, get an Ibanez (it's what all the rockstars are using now, that's what the guy at the store told me.) But, hey at least you're not using your brothers like me. Just get the one that you like, if you can afford it, and it's what you like, awesome! No one else is going to play your guitar, so you should get what you like. Fender is nice too. I don't know if that helped, I'm kinda conceided talking about myself... well, this has probably been answered already so I don't know if it was any help.

I was actually going to say the ESP viper. That is a GORGEOUS guitar. A friend of mine has one in like this metalic bluish grey color. Oh jeeze it's SO pretty. As for the cyclone, it's not so much my style but it is a nice guitar I must admit and the Flying V is a total rock star guitar, EVERY rock star has to have one, that's the next one I plan on getting. I have two piece of shit Fenders. But, in all honesty, either a Flying V or the ESP viper, those are great choices. They are beautiful guitars and they play nice too. Hope this helped.

I would not rule out Ibanez guitars! Ibanez make some kick-ass guitars, and have many that are very affordable. Beyond that, I'd take the Cyclone over the others you listed. ESP guitars just seem like a joke to me, and the flying v, while cool looking, is more gimmicky than anything. I'll add to this later if I think of anything else. Good luck with your search - I feel your pain! ;)
