okay, i play the guitar and whenever i go to play a chord like an E chord or an E m chord my wrist clicks especially if i play any notes up that far on the guitar neck it doesn't hurt but it's just weird. and whenever i do that hand motion for 'come here' with one hand where you move it back and forth.. it clicks really loud. is there something wrong with my wrist? or is this normal
Parlance answered Wednesday August 25 2004, 5:12 am: Mine does the same thing, it's probably 'normal' as long as it doesn't hurt. It's just your wrist readjusting itself. If it begins to hurt, you may have strained your wrist or if it starts to become severely uncomfortable, you may be developing arthritis. I doubt this is probable because you are so young. MFS answered Tuesday August 24 2004, 9:32 pm: with regards to the guitar - you might take a close look at your posture and how your arm is positioned. You might need to wear the guitar up a little higher to reduce stress on your wrist and tendons.
While it doesn't hurt, it isn't helping your wrist, and can lead to long-term wrist problems. The popping is probably tendons - and right now, they are probalby not terribly stressed... but as time wears on, so do your tendons, which causes inflammation - and that can lead to long-term joint problems.
You don't need to spook yourself over this, but just be aware of it and think if there might be a way to adust your arm to reduce the stress on your joints. Even though there is no pain, you want to make sure that it doesn't become painful.

Moop answered Tuesday August 24 2004, 7:26 pm: Firstly- we are NOT medical doctors. these are what you should see in occurences that seem even the tiniest bit odd.
secondly- no, it's not normal. Your carpals could be getting off-kilter and may lock up just like sufferers of TMJ who note clicking jaws before the first lock. [ Moop's advice column | Ask Moop A Question ]
Karen answered Tuesday August 24 2004, 7:19 pm: Yep, it's normal. This happens to some people who play guitar. But don't worry, it's normal for your wrist to click. Hope I helped :) [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
