It's afterwards that really hurts. When you talk, your tongue moves up and down, which moves the piercing, so you will be extra quiet for about a week after you get it done. Yes, it is definately worth it, the pain only lasts a week, or even less. You should try to stay away from dairy during that time, and you will only be able to "eat" liquids. I ate mostly yogurt, even though yogurt is a dairy. Depending on how sensative you are to piercings, dairy's are more prone to give you infections. Just make sure you put a ingestible-safe piercing solution on it every single time you eat something, drink something, or just when it hurts. Carry a water bottle around everywhere, because water will sometimes help to numb the pain.
Ok, I might be making it seem worse than it is, but it really is worth it.
While your getting it done, you could close your eyes and concentrate on something else if you think that will help, but when I get a piercing, I just look off to the side and focus on a picture, or something on the wall. You won't go into shock, but you might get a little dizzy. Most of the time, if it's a good, professional piercer, they will have you stay there in the same position for a minute or so to make sure that your ok.
Just so you know, the only time I got dizzy was when I got two piercings right in a row, you should be fine. [ selectopaque's advice column | Ask selectopaque A Question ]

First they are going to ask you to stick your tongue out as far as it will go! :P Then they will take a thing called a clamp and hold your tongue still! Then they'll push the needle threw it, put the ring in it and your all done! Let me know how it turns out! Hope I helped! -*-Sonnie-*- [ SouthernBarbieGirl's advice column | Ask SouthernBarbieGirl A Question ]

I got my tongue pierced, as should you, at a clean, professional studio. The person wore latex gloves at all times, and I saw all the equipment come out of a sterilizer or sterile wrappings. That is always the most important thing. The piercer should also look at the bottom of your tongue - there is a large vein there which can get infected (and lead to death) if punctured. It's important they know not to hit yours.
Next, it hurts like a bitch. It was the most piercing pain I've felt, but then everyone has different pain tolerances. If you are someone who doesn't flinch when their ear gets ripped off, you'll probably be fine. Your tongue will also swell for a week or so.
After the swelling goes down, you have to buy a second piercing. They'll pierce you with a longer bar to accomodate the swelling, but you shouldn't keep this in as it can help damage your teeth.
I am someone who loved her tongue piercing, but it did some bad damage to my teeth. I didn't even notice that it was chipping away at my lower teeth until I started having constant aches, and the tooth eventually started wiggling.
I'd warn you to be careful - your teeth are more important to you in the long run, not your fashion accesories. Hope I helped ..if you have more questions, let me know. [ alisonmarie's advice column | Ask alisonmarie A Question ]
Ronlina answered Wednesday August 11 2004, 3:25 am: BEfore answering your question directly, I'd really want you to consider if this is something you really want. This is a hole in your body. While I am all for body piercing, I just hate to see people go for something because they like it on a whim and then a few years later regret it entirely.

Secondly, please try to find a nice, clean studio. A clean studio should look professional. You should be able to go inside and check everything out BEFORE deciding to get pierced there. Go to more than one place in your area and see what looks cleanest, most like a dentist's office. A good pirecing studio will also have a fully functional Auto Clave, which is what dotors and dentists use to sterilize everything. Ask to see it before you let anyone pierce you.

Lastly, you need to do some research on your own. Go to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) - there is so much awesome information here. Look for the link on the front page that says "tongue" and you will find pictures and stories galore. To help you decide if this is right for you.

Everyone is different. Some people have little or no pain the whole time. Some people's mouths swell and hurt for days, maybe even weeks. As with every piercing, there are also risks. If not taken care of properly, you could get an infection and die. If you are in some other sort of accident by some awful chance and need CPR or a breathing tube, your piercing could get in the way.

These things don't happen very often if you're careful, but I'm just trying to make you aware that it could. It's important to know the risks. Tooth breakage is also a common thing to consider - many people lose teeth because of biting down on the barbell. This can be avoided by using acrylic jewlery and being careful in general, but still something to think about.

I think it's worth it, it's fun to play with, lol... If you close your eyes it will probably lessen the pain a little because you dont see them doing it... I dunno thats what I did :-) [ Roxybabii922's advice column | Ask Roxybabii922 A Question ]
