Question Posted Tuesday July 27 2004, 4:02 am

I'm debating whether I should talk to my friend or if I should just forget her and move forward. Lately she's been experimenting with alcohol and she's even tried marijuana. However, she said that she would never do pot again. I believe she is doing this just so she'll "fit in," with her friends at work. She told me she's drinking because she wants to and that her parents never let her drink, yet I still have second thoughts. What should I do?

<i>RANDOM NOTE FROM SLEDGE: If you haven't noticed by now, I feel I don't need to use politically correct language and try to sound more sophisticated than the normal person. I want to connect to my readers, not be a gimmick writer and be someone I'm not. I use the F' Bomb (although edited) and other colorful words. I think what makes me stand out from all the others is I'm not trying to sound any different than what I really am. This ain't your grandma's advice column, God dammit! I think answering your questions in the same why I would answer my best friend, with the language and such, also keeps things in perspective that I am no different than all the Sledge Heads out there. No gimmicks, I'm telling it like it is and calling it like I see it. If you want pollitically correct bullshit go read Dear Abby or call the Dr. Laura 'yotch. If you got a problem with what I say, don't read or kiss the Playboy bunny "tan-line" on my tan little ass!</i>

Moving on...

Dear Confuzzled,

I'm not against drinking by any means, however, marijuana is a totally different story. I find people that smoke marijuana to be hilarious jackasses that sit at a stop sign waiting for it to say go. While they are complete idiots, I feel no sympathy for them like I do the hair lipped, Special-Ed kids. Alrighty then, I think if done correctly, drinking is not that big of a deal. The reality in it... people are f'n morons and don't know how to drink responsibly. Too often are people drunk behind a wheel and hurting others. Who cares if they hurt themselves? Not me, no way, f*** them, their fault, kiss my ass, you deserved it! But the people that get hurt because of their stupid decisions I DO have sympathy for and think they should stomp a mudhole in their ass. I'm also not saying that drinking and driving is the only bad part about drinking. Important decisions are influenced by the "liquid courage" such as sex, drugs, when to stop before it gets fatal, and the list goes on and on. I think drinking is one of the stupidest things a person could do, yet more than 2/3 of the world does it, including myself, but the United States ALONE makes over $90 million just on beer each year, so it isn't going away any time soon! That's my take on it. Thought it was important for the younger readers to hear it from someone they can look up to and relate to rather than some overweight jackass preaching to a classroom of kids waiting for the bell to ring. Even though I curse like a son of a gun, I think it's important we help set a good example for "youngsters". Hell, that's why <i>Ask Sledge</i> is here in the first place.

I won't feed you bullshit and say I don't drink because then I'd be a sanctimonious, assclown liar. Do I think people should start drinking as soon as they hit high school? F*** no. Do I think they should drink as soon as sophomore year rolls around? Also, f*** no. I hear about these girls that are already drinking at 14 years old. Where the f*** are the parents? These are the same dumf***s that are getting pregnant five times a year and denting the side of my car when their stupid little carcasses don't know how to open a freaking door!

I know it's unrealistic to believe everyone waits until they are 21, or 18/16 in some countries, but 17 and younger is way too God dern early... and it f'n pisses me off. I for one didn't drink until I was graduated from high school, which I think is fair to say is normal and not looked down upon as much as high school drinking. I also got caught and suffered the consequences, which included having to go to court, pay a big ass fine of $206.00, do 20 hours of community service, and take two 4-hours each alcohol awareness classes (AA). Not fun, and not worth the TEMPORARY buzz I got from drinking and getting caught. You sober up real fast when the cops show up, believe you me! Also, not trying to say I am better than anybody because I chose to wait until I graduated (even though I am the Paragon of Virtue and one bad maama jaama)!

Now that you got a little background about where I stand on drinking, let's take a look at your question. <b>"I'm debating whether I should talk to my friend or if I should just forget her and move forward. Lately she's been experimenting with alcohol and she's even..."</b> blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda <b>"...doing this just so she'll "fit in," with her friends at work..."</b> blah, blah, blah. Ok then! If I were in this situation personally I would say to her, "Now listen Scarecrow, I ain't no God damn Wizard of Oz to determine that you still don't have a brain cell in your head." It's that easy.

Any one that does something just because they want to be cool is in fact not cool and one of the biggest assclowns on earth. Be yourself people! How many times I gotta say it! It's blatantly obvious that if she tried alcohol and drugs recently within such a short time of each other then she is doing it to fit in. Most people gradually build up to regular drinking and then go on further and try smoking pot. If she skipped the build up and jumped straight into regular drinking and drugs then it's no more complex then simply trying to be cooler than she really is. F*** her. Anyone that tries to be someone they aren't for friends can blow me. Actually no they can't, I wouldn't want to degrade my "magic wand" like that! Ah they can have my ass to kiss since I'm not too attached to that baby... or maybe I am? Hmmm.

The decision is of course up to you. I personally think she is feeding you cow-dung when she says she is drinking because she wants to. No one goes from nothing to drinking regularly over night. No one that isn't being pressured or trying to be Mr. or Mrs. cool! No one! Period. End of discussion. I think you should just find a way to get her wasted, take tons of pictures of her drunk, and post them all over the net! That would teach the b**** a lesson, right kids? Or save the pictures with a beer in her hand, wait until she leaves and goes out of town without the parents, send the pictures to her parents at home with a note that says "Mom and Dad, [enter place] is so much fun but I'm out of booze and have no money! Help!" It'd be hilarious!

All joking aside though. Talk to her about how you feel and tell her to pick. Tell her to get a long neck OR get a long with YOU and not let stupid peer pressure influence what she does. One or the other, not both. If she doesn't listen, she's history. Hell, link her to Ask Sledge and let her read it for herself! If I find out any Sledge Heads are drinking before high school graduation I will personally chew their asses out!

Thanks for such a controversial question! Seriously, I love making people think a little. Even cerebral impaired people like your friend, the Scarecrow!
