While you write the song, get a good tune in your head. Like if it's a depressing song, don't sing it like it's really fun and beachy, but if it is a fun song, sing it with a little bounce. if you want a personal opinion, adult alternative is probably the most well rounded way to sing and easiest in some ways, so try that. (singers rock!!!)
