I need help with a "toxic" friend.

Question Posted Sunday June 20 2004, 3:00 pm

I have a good friend who I've been having doubts about lately. She can be a nice person, but is often times very mean or cruel. If she doesn't agree with something that I do or say, she'll get pissed off and try to change my point of view. She is against anything popular, just because it's popular, which gets very annoying. She gossips to everyone, so I don't like telling her anything because I know it will be repeated. I've tried several times to cut off ties with her, but it seems impossible. I'm at a loss of what to do!

She's insecure and probably doesn't have a second thought about how other people feel about her behavior. I'd either talk to her honestly about how you feel, or try a lot harder to cut ties.
