xokristabelle answered Saturday May 29 2004, 3:00 pm: Well, first write one! Come up with a basic idea and plot line, although many people work better with just a description of the main person and work from there. I recomend writing it in WordPad and spell checking it in Word. Give it a nice title (if you want a cover i can make one- ive taken a lot of photoshop classes). Ask a librarian at your local library if they accept writing (put it in like a report cover). If yes go ahead! Also submit to magazines like YM and GL and enter writing contestss. If you are serious, you need to do your homework. I did a google search [[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)+
guide&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8] and came up with a lot of results. I think a lot depends on where you are [US, UK etc] as to what to look out for in terms of legal requierments. If you are in the UK, see if you can get hold of a copy of the 'artists and writers yearbook'. this has loads of really usefull stuff about everything an artist or writer could need, including your query.
A well known Sci-Fi author, Neal Asher, started out by just printing a collection of short stories on a Lazerjet and purchasing an ISBN number.

If the accept you they shop around your works after you get it edited, and if a publisher picks you up they control publicity. If you want to publish it yourself you better have money because its expensive, but the best thing to do is got it copyrighted and go from there.
AmandaTopel5 answered Tuesday April 27 2004, 10:19 am: You don't really have to publish your own story. Many authors didn't get their stories published. So if you want to publish your story, I suggest you read it over and you decide if it needs publishing. I'm a writer myself and none of my stories got published. Just remember that you don't have to publish a story. You can but no one is perfect. The only way people publish their own stories is by reading it and checking mistakes.
