Well I suggest, though appealing as this idea may be, don't commit homicide. Not so good. Lol. You and your daughter seem to have a great relationship and seem to be very close. It's great that you two have this, but I think you need to let them handle it. How reliable is his mother? Did he actually TELL her that he was thinking of breaking it off with your daughter? If not, she may have heard wrong. Verify the facts. If they're really facts, an option would be to sit your daughter down and tell her to prepare herself. Even if she doesn't believe you, (which she might not (God knows I wouldn't believe my mom if she told me my boyfriend was about to break up with me), so be prepared for that) it will put the idea into her head, so she'll be better prepared anyway. Good luck with it all, but make sure you don't get too involved.

It's really, really nice that you want your daughter to be happy. But seriously, this is between your daughter and her boyfriend. You'd be better off letting them worry about it.

Well, this is the first time I've ever come across a mother who actually *wants* her daughter to marry a guy who's in prison. But that may be beside the point.

I think it's wonderful that you're so concerned with your daughter's happiness, but it sounds like you may be a little too invested in this relationship. This is really between her and her boyfriend, and if either of them wants to break it off, you can't control their decision. It's just not up to you. You need to take a step back: you should support your daughter, and be there for her if she needs you, but you have to let things take their natural course.

I'm assuming that your daughter is an adult, by the way. If she's not, then I think it's a terrible idea for her to be committed to someone at this stage of her life anyway.
