orphans answered Friday April 2 2004, 10:02 pm: How you fix this drive depends entirely on how it's been formatted. Is it NTFS, HFS, MacOS Extended, ext3, reiser..? In any case, there is repair and retrieval software for every platform. I don't really know any for Windows or Mac off the top of my head, but a websearch should be helpful in that regard. downwithhydrogen answered Sunday March 21 2004, 11:59 am: First, I'd need some more information:
1. Is this a PC or a Mac we're working with?
2. Desktop or laptop?
3. Firewire drive, specifically, or just a firewire CARD?
If you have a laptop, you're just going to have to take it to a repair shop and have them deal with it, unless you're really good with computers and love working in very small spaces.
If it's a Mac, you'll probably have to do that anyway, if I recall correctly.
If it's a PC desktop, you ought to be able to just replace the firewire card and you ought to be able to access the data once more.
If I'm wrong, someone come and correct me. I don't work much with Macs, but they don't make those machines so you can take them apart and tinker with them (hence why I work with PCs- playing with computer hardware is fun). In any case, if all else fails, just take it to a computer store and see what they can do for you. [ downwithhydrogen's advice column | Ask downwithhydrogen A Question ]
