Question Posted Sunday January 11 2004, 1:00 am

I play classical guitar. I left my teacher a few months ago and I'm learning on my own. I need to know how to play sharps and flats on guitar.

u know how there are dots on the fret board. well in between those dots are usually sharps and flats of the chords u play. for instance, 3rd fret sixth string is a G. right? so one fret higher would be a A flat or G sharp.(a flat and g sharp are the same thing)

I play the clarinet, and I don't know how to read the music. I have a band teacher, but it still comes hard for me. I have a really good ear, so I can memorize a song in a heart-beat. I would just try to sound it out and teach yourself.

All you have to do is go on the internet. search for someone who can guide you. many do this for free.

accidentals are just a half step up or down from the note that is being sharped... thus, on a guitar, that's one fret up (sharp) or down (flat).
