trust
i have a friend i trust with my life. or at least i DID. it turns out he doesn't trust me one bit. i even called him my older brother! i can't seem to get over it and i am really pissed off. he says he's sorry, but i don't know what's true anymore. how do i know if he's truthful to me as i used to be to him?

When you lose trust in a person, it's also losing faith in a person. There's no quantifier to be able to tell if a person is trustworthy. I have a friend that I also trust with my life (I call him the brother I never got in real life), and he also managed to break my trust. On a couple of occasions. I choose to trust him now because I know when he apologizes that he's sincere.
So the question for you is- Do you believe he was sincere?
Two cases to examine:
Case One: He's sincere. You decide never to trust him again. Now you've just lost the friendship of the person you called a brother. However, if he was sincere, you give it another try, and likely end up better friends because of it.
Case Two: He's not sincere. You decide to trust him. It comes back and bites you again. You (hypothetically) decide not to trust him again.
There's no way to know for absolutely certain, but, as a good book of mine said, "Trust is always an act of faith."
