The radio station I listen to cranks out the cheesy pop tune

Question Posted Sunday October 12 2003, 10:08 am

The radio station I listen to cranks out the cheesy pop tunes until I'm ready to explode some one/thing. Does this give me permission to send them hatemail until they play some REAL music? (and it is the only radio station in the area, besides classical)

Hate mail away! Hate mail-writing can be fun. Get clever. Spoof the words of Britney's latest horrible whiney noise and send that to them.

And cheer up! classical isn't so bad. It's quite relaxing, actually.

Yes, but whats wrong with classical music. Bach happens to be my favorite mussician, followed by the Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, and The Who (Cream and Led Zepplin are also up there)

Well, sort of. You could just send them a letter, asking why they don't play rap, rock, or whatever kind of music you like.

Why wouldn't you listen to the classical station, anyway? That's real music. ;)

Ever seen the movie Pump Up the Volume? Start your own underground station. Loads of fun, I'd guess. (I believe it's even legal as long as you don't exceed a certain power level. I can check that if you want.)

If they're owned by ClearChannel Communications (or whatever that company's called), by all means, do it.

You might consider checking out online radio stations. There are plenty of sites you can go to and listen to radio stations all over the country with little or no trouble. It usually works best with high-speed internet... listening to the radio online with a modem doesn't work very well.

If nothing else, start your own radio station! That could be fun alternative... and you get to pick the music.

By all means, hate mail away! And send some ideas for bands for them to play, too. There's no reason to listen to the same dumb stuff hour after hour, I'd be really mad if I only had one radio station cranking Britney Spears 24/7. Tell them you want Dar Williams and you want her now! Or The Tragically Hip (it's pop!) or Ani Difranco. They don't have to be totally weird, but they could at least try. Then campaign to get a public radio station somewhere near you, because those rock.
