ok im 14 and female.
im 170 pounds and kinda short.
so i wanna lose a lot of weight. i've come up with a food plan tell me what you think:

breakfast- about 15 grapes
(no snack because im at school and we cant eat until lunch)
lunch- wheat bread with ham cheese and mayo,
130 calories worth of raisins,
100 calorie cheeto bag and
100 calorie bag of chocolate cookies

snack when i get home: a large pretzel stick and a few pieces of colby jack cheese

dinner: salad with low fat ranch dressing.

and this is it. any suggestions or tips for me? do i need any revisation?
i dont really work out because i have a crap load of homework when i get home then i go to sleep at nine and wake up at 6.

though, i do walk really fast from getting to one school to the other and up and downstairs.

help?? (link)
I completely disagree with your diet plan. You're eating only 25% of the recommended daily caloric intake (which is roughly 2000 calories, more if you are active), so you'll pretty much be what we call anorexic. If you begin eating like this, expect to be anemic, not getting your period, having brittle nails and hair, feeling fatigued all the time, and fainting all over the place.

You may have cut down on calories, but you certainly aren't eating healthy. You definitely HAVE to cut out the junk food (mayo, cheetos, cookies), regardless of how many calories are in it. Plus, you aren't getting any nutrients, especially from these processed food. Eat more vegetables and fruits instead.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Think of you body as a car. If you put some fuel in it, then it will run efficiently. Food is energy, or fuel. You should eat a high-carb, low fat breakfast. I doubt some grapes get you through the day. Grab a bagel, english muffin, orange juice and a piece of fruit. For lunch, the sandwich is fine, but put some lettuce and tomatoes in it, or other veggies, and have a bag of carrot sticks, celery or other chopped veggies too. The salad is acceptable for dinner, but maybe eat it with grilled chicken. Make sure you're getting meat in your diet.

Anyways, fiber bars and protein shakes aren't bad for you, but they aren't diet foods either. They certainly won't do anything for you if you aren't exercising.

I don't think you should keep a food journal unless you do a very poor job of eating in the first place. It already looks like you're overanalyzing this calorie-counting. Which is insane. I eat about 2200 calories a day, but of HEALTHY foods, plus I exercise 4-5 days a week. You can't lose weight just by doing one or the other (eating healthy or exercising); you must do BOTH to achieve results. Any kind of activity you can get is good, but if you don't get your heart rate up and break a sweat, then it won't make any significant changes.

--------------------------------------

Look, I don't understand why you're being so hostile. The subject of your question is "What do you think?", and you ask for suggestions and tips. You sought an opinion and I gave you one, and I'm obviously looking out for your health here. If you've eaten like this for a month and it's working, then what's your point even coming on this site and asking? Five pounds per week is nothing to be proud of because it isn't healthy, either. Finally, I'm not the obese fourteen-year-old. It's up to you whether you value my opinion or not, but let me inform you that I AM A PERSONAL TRAINER. So you can "put that in your juice box and suck it". Thank you.

In the biggest loser
i heard that jilian michaels[[The trainer]] was fat?

is it true? (link)
Yes, she used to be. This is what Wikipedia says:

"She began her career in exercise because she was considerably overweight before her teenage years (although not to the same extent as the contestants she whips into shape now). As a young adult, her mother enrolled her in a martial arts class, which was a new beginning for Jillian. Thereafter she dedicated herself to helping the overweight transform their lives and their bodies for the better."

I'm a 16 year old female and I'm new to the whole working-out thing. I've been doing pilates and running for the past year but I do it randomly, so it doesn't count much.

Whenever I sweat, I get hives on my knees, thighs, and arms. I do have a skin condition called "Eczema" but, as far as I know, that doesn't have much to do with hives. I'm allergic to peanut butter, cats and dogs, and that's about it. So why would sweat trigger hives on my skin? (link)
I'm in the same boat because I have eczema and all kinds of allergies too. If I get sweat on the spots where I have eczema, it gets irritated and itchy, but I don't get hives, so I don't think the hives are from eczema.

Anyways, don't put lotion, body sprays or perfume on before you exercise. If you had put lotion on earlier in the day, that should be okay. This may sound strange, but try working out while your skin is clean, like take a shower a little bit before you exercise.

The problem could be that you are simply irritated by sweat or the heat. Exercise indoors where there is air conditioning so you can keep cool.

hey so i recently started going on yaz birth control and i have gained like 10 pounds. i usually stay the same weight so i was shocked to see this change. since i think it is because of the pill, does that mean i cannot loose it? or just have to work harder? do i have to go off the pill if i ever want to get back to how i was? (link)
A lot of girls gain weight after going on the pill (including me and I HATE it). I basically get the same symptoms I get when I'm on my period, which means I'm always bloated.

You just have to work REALLY hard to lose the weight and watch what you eat.

If you do choose to stop the pill, then YES, you will lose the weight you gained.. but make sure you are going off it for the right reasons.

16/f/160cm/142 lbs.

If I cut back on all junk foods, with exception to carbs which are needed as well as lean protein, substitute water for soft drinks.

And exercise 30 minutes (cardio) and doing various toning exercises, 5 days a week, will I be able to lose 10-15 lbs by the end of summer?

Also, does mindset play a big role in weight loss? Because I tried to lose weight last summer, ate properly and stuff but I never lost anything. (link)
Healthy weight loss averages to about a pound a week. Any more than that would be unhealthy.

If you wanted to lose more than that, you'd have to do a fad diet. Fad diets are very bad because they are not nutritionally balanced. Yes, you will drop pounds fast, but once you get off the diet, you gain all the weight you lost plus more.

The diet and exercise plan you have listed is perfectly fine. As long as it's healthy, that's good.

YES! Your mindset plays a big role! You have to be confident and determined all the time. Always push yourself and motivate yourself to your goals. How you feel reflects how you look. If you feel like crap, you are going to look like crap. Just believe in yourself and you will see results.

Let me remind you that what's on the scale doesn't matter. It's really about how you look. People don't look at you and say, "Oh, she looks 150 lbs". No way. Who does that? It's about how you LOOK. If you look good, you look good.

I say, stick to your plan and you'll see results. If not, either exercise more or eat less (but don't go anorexic!)

how much weight would I lose WITHOUT replacing it with muscle in 4 weeks?? I am going swimming with all my grade in 4 weeks and i really really wanna lose some weight! I am planning on doing AT LEAST 10-15 minutes of Cardio everyday (keep in mind i also have to study for exams, and work, so please dont tell me I have to work more) so yeah do you think I'm gunna do good?? Im REALLY working to target me inner thighs, can I tone those in 4 weeks?? Thanks :)
any other tips feel free to tell me
PS I know you cant spot-reduce, but please help me on this one :) (link)
To clear things up, fat and muscle don't REPLACE each other. They are both there, always, but they can either shrink or get bigger.

Don't worry about looking muscular, it's physically impossible for women to get bulky like men, unless they use steroids and follow strict diets and intense workouts (like female bodybuilders and fitness models).

Also, don't stress about the scale. Most of the women who look skinny, fit and toned weigh much more than you think they do.

You say you can't do any more than 10-15 of cardio, but that isn't enough for fat burning. Ideally, you need to do 30-60 min, especially if you want to get fit in such a short time. 10-15 is okay if you want your heart to stay healthy, but not enough if you are looking to get in shape.

True, you can't spot-reduce. Just stick to cardio to burn the fat, and do lunges with weights, climb stairs, leg lifts, bike, or run to tone up your thighs.

Most importantly, make sure you are eating healthy and drinking lots of water. Exercising and eating right go hand in hand. You can't expect results doing one thing and not the other. It doesn't matter too much about following a strict diet and counting calories as long as you eat lots of veggies and fruits. It's common sense to pick an apple over some chips.

I used to be the real skinney girl like 3 months ago. I gained 15 pounds and went from a size 3 to a 7. I eat perfect im always outside runnin or sumfin and I work out. How could that all happen so fast? I hate it, its summer and I look gross in my swim suit I usually live at the pool but I doubt ill be goin much anymore :(. Is there anything like sickness or anything that could do that, although that may sound stupid as hell lol. But I eat very good and exercise a lot and its not muscle, my mom doesn’t know either. it shouldnt be good to get this much bigger that quick. (link)
15 lbs in three months is really drastic.. How old are you? I'd say if you were 12-15 years old or you're going through puberty, then that would be the cause, but are you SURE it's not because of your eating habits?

Even though you eat well in quality, have you started to eat more in quantity? Have you started to eat a lot of carbs? A combination of eating a lot and not exercising is almost always the case when gaining that much weight, that fast. You say you exercise often, but do you really? Sometimes we feel like we do a lot when in reality, we've really cut down.

Maybe you should check with your doctor. You could have some kind of condition. This is really odd.

Good luck to you!

I read somewhere that you used Bio Oil. You really think its good? How long and how often did you use it. ? . ? (link)
It really works. You see an improvement within a few days. I personally used it for stretch marks on my butt and it worked perfectly. I didn't have to use it for that long, however mine weren't that bad compared to some people. My bf had REALLY REALLY BAD stretch marks on his chest/shoulders and it worked so well(it looked like the got scratched by a bear claw I swear to God..).

You put it on everyday. On the website it says twice a day, but I guess it depends on how bad your marks really are.

Here's the site:

so im sick and tied of kids calling me fat, i know im not fat just could lose a few pounds.
so im 5'4 and 118 pounds. i have round hips and a pooch on my lower belly.
my arms look like man arms and my thighs touch.
i would really like to lose my pouch loase arm fat and i already have a lot of muscle on my arms, and then i would like it if my thighs did not touch and my calfs were a little slimmer. i used to be a dancer since i was very little and i was skinny then, and thats why i have a lot of muscle.
also i get a really strong motivation to work out for like a day then i give up.

so my question is how can i lose all that i would like? and how to i keep up my motivation??
PLEASE HELP:] (link)
The key is to find something you like and stick to it. You lose motivation because you haven't found something you enjoy doing, and you can't really expect it to last if you are forcing yourself to do something.

Try a bunch of things and see what you like. Since you said you used to dance, you can try cardio dance classes.

I really like aerobics classes because you don't really feel like you're working out. They're really fun and offer MANY types of classes (salsa, hip hop, working with weights and equipment, yoga, pilates).

The aerobics part can take care of your cardio. If you don't like aerobics, try running, walking, elliptical machines or biking for at least 20 minutes a day, 3-5 times a week. Make sure you are breaking up a sweat! Cardio burns the fat.

To tone up, you have to do some kind of weight lifting.

http://www.exercisetv.tv has a bunch of free video workouts, inluding cardio and weights. If you don't have dumbbells at home, try using canned goods, water bottles, etc.

If you aren't part of a gym, try your community or rec. center. Sometimes they are free, if not, the memberships are much cheaper than joining a gym. Do you have a weight room at school? those are always free and you can go after school.

Another really good tip to help with motivation is to keep a schedule. For example, going to the gym everyday after school. And something that has ALWAYS worked for me is to go with a friend. You'll have a support/buddy system that way.

What are some great work outs I can do for my lower abs, mainly? I'd rather not actually lose weight all over, because I like the erm, other assets, haha, but I'd just like to lose the bit of belly fat I've got.
Keep in mind, I don't have any workout equipment, other than a stationary bike at my Dad's house (who I see on the weekends), and a set of six pound weights.
Please try to be specific if describing any work outs, and I'd like to see results fairly quickly..

Thanks for anything! (link)
For lower abs, lie down on your back with your hands tucked under your butt. Slightly lift your shoulders off the ground (not just your neck, but your shoulders, because your neck will cramp and you won't feel the workout as much).

Keeping your legs straight and feet together, lift your legs together to 90 degrees, then lower to two inches off the ground, then repeat. For a beginner, lift from 90 degrees to 45 degrees, for intermediate, lift from 90 degrees to the ground, for advanced, go from 45 degrees to the ground.

It helps to do this in front of a mirror so you can see how much you're lifting your legs off the ground.

You can also do the same thing but instead of feet together, alternate. Like left leg up while the right leg is down, and vice versa.

im a 17/f and i was wondering how do people get back muscle so that it shows. like what kind of exercises do u have to do? (link)
If you are talking about your lats (lattimus dorsi), there are two kinds of lats:

The outboard lats run from the armpit down to the small of the back. They are used to pull the shoulders downward; they also assist in pulling the elbows in towards the sides.

The upper lats which run from the armpit to the spine—in the area under the shoulders—are used to pull the shoulders back and also to swing the elbows outward.

To work these you would do lat pulldowns (it's a machine at the gym). Pull-ups would also work for your lats.
Basically, wide-grip movements will primarily hit the upper lats. This is also pretty much the case with bent rowing (barbell or dumbbell) or seated rowing.

On the other hand, close-grip overhead work will primarily hit the outboard lats; this is particularly true when you use an undergrip or palms up grip.

Here's a pic of the muscles I'm talking about:
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/musclesurf/lats-guy.gif

If you want to work your lower back or spinal erectors, try doing stabilizers AKA tabletops or coffee table. Think pushup position here, except your body weight should be resting on your forearms instead of your hands. Push your body to the "up" position, tighten your stomach, and keep your shoulders, back, buttocks, and heels in a straight line. Now hold (30 seconds to a minute). This is one of the best exercises for your core (abs and back).

prom is coming up and i need to lose about 10-15 lbs. in about a week and a half [if not sooner]

i know it's possible because i've done it before on a crash diet but my usual crash diet isn't working fast enough.

before anybody answers please note that:
- im pretty willing to try anything, as long as it works and doesnt dent my budget too much
- i understand the risks, i know how far i can push my body, please no lectures.
- i don't really care if the weightloss lasts it's just for one night.

so if anybody has any diet plans or anything that they know works really well please help me out! i was fasting but it wasn't coming off fast enough so i was wondering if i had like a detox drink along with my fast if that would help?

any and all advice is welcome, thank you! (link)
Yes, Jeanne is right about your body going in "starvation" mode. You sort of blow up because your metabolism is slowed down.

I won't lecture you, but basically, if you have to be pseudo-anorexic. There's the saltine diet where all you do is eat a couple of crackers a day and drink water. that basically works if you ate a little bit of one thing everyday (like the comment below about only eating peppers).

There's also the Special K diet where you eat a bowl of cereal instead of a real meal. You can have snacks in between (like a protein bar or fruit).

There's the diet where all you do is drink cranberry juice (make sure it's actually juice, not juice cocktail which is all sugar). Or you can just drink two slim-fasts a day.

There's this canned drink called Enviga. It looks like an energy drink. It's a drink that supposedly boosts your metabolism and burns a few extra calories. I'm not sure how well that works because I've never tried it.

AND, if you're really hardcore, you will do what wrestlers do. Wrestlers will drop anywhere from 5-20 lbs below their normal weight in order to compete in a lower weight class. What they do is INTENSE workouts, like wear LAYERS of sweats while using a bike machine in a SAUNA. You basically dehydrate yourself by sweating out every single drop of water you have. It's extremely unhealthy, but it works.

SO... eat very very little or workout in layers of sweats! or do a combination of both.

Hi! I have a friend whose daughter is 12 years old and is 5'2 inches tall. She weighs 95 pounds and wants to lose her fat in her thighs and stomach. What kind of exercises can she do to lose that fat? and is it normal for a 12 year old to be 5'2 and weigh 95 pounds? she does not think she is over weight but she is pretty self- concious about her body. so what could she do to have a better looking body with her characteristics? (link)
Yes, spot reducing does not work! Doing specific exercises that target muscles like abs, thighs, glutes (butt), etc. will help BUILD the muscle underneath, but it will not burn the fat! In order to lose fat, a person must do cardio. Cardio can be anything like running, biking, swimming, aerobics, sports. Doing cardio about 3-5 days a week for at least 30 minutes, combined with healthy eating (not a diet) will work.

That's a very normal weight for her, especially at that age where she's going through puberty. I was about the same size/weight at that age. Just let her know that she will not look that way forever! Things will change in a couple of years.

yesterday i asked a question about losing weight and if my boob size would go down...and i'm also wondering if i lose weight will that also make my butt smaller? (link)
It all really depends. If you naturally have a larger butt that is mostly comprised of fat (this is due to genetics), then losing overall body fat will make it smaller.

If you have a butt that is mostly muscle, then to make it smaller you would have to exercise that area less. If you wanted to make your butt larger, then doing exercises like lunges or stairclimbers will build the muscle in your butt (also known at your glutes) and make your butt larger and "perkier".

Basically, if your butt is mostly fat, then losing overall body fat (by doing cardio) will make it smaller.

hey, i saw your answer on one of the questions related to losing weight and i thought it was really good and i was wondering if you have any advice for me.

i need to lose weight by early May. losing weight meaning, having a flatter stomach and stuff....

i've been going to the gym for about a month and a half and i go about 4 or 5 times a week.

i burn 300 cal. on the treadmill, then i do the staircase thing burning 600 cal. so i burn 900 cal. a day ... hopefully the machines are right

i used to lift weights but i stopped because fat and muscle just don't mix

during the month and a half, there came a time for about 2 or 3 weeks that i got caught up into junk food and stuff. i stopped yesterday... because i was like "this can't be helping" so i eat fruit instead.

i know it takes time to lose weight... so i was just wondering if i'm doing good so far and if there's anything else that i should be doing that can help me lose weight maybe even faster.... because i don't see any difference so far.

thanks ! (link)
Thanks for your question! lol

You're already on a good track because you are sticking to a routine. I would suggest maybe mixing it up. Instead of only doing treadmills and staircases, try a bike like this one:

http://www.bargain-sports-equipment.co.uk/images/bike_machine.jpg

The good part is that because of the high seat, you can work your abs as at the same time.

Also, take advantage of the preset programs on the machines (interval, forest walk, aerobic). Those are the best way to go instead of doing the same speed for 30 min. You get the best calorie burn out of the programs that mix it up because you don't get too used to it.

The calorie counter isn't the most accurate thing in the world. In reality, you could really be burning more or less than what it says. Sometimes I'm breaking up a really good sweat but the calorie counter just seems to low, you know what I mean? Just judge it by how hard you are working.

Plus, working out is not the only time you burn calories. You expend calories anytime you move, pretty much. When you are walking to classes or up and down stairs. It's minimal calorie burn, but it adds up.

It's okay that you had junk food for a minute. We're only human! Junk food is okay, but you should only have it once in a while. That won't hurt.

Are you sure there is NO change? Not in weight? Or in looks?

How healthy are you eating? If you are working out constantly but not eating right, you won't see a change. Also, if you find that your workouts are getting boring and you don't seem to sweat much, increase the intensity and do interval programs.

I'm assuming you are part of a gym. Have you attended any aerobics classes there? They're really fun ways to burn calories without even knowing it. There are all kinds of classes. Some interpret weights and equipment (which are provided), there are hip hop dance classes, salsa classes, yoga, all kinds (depending on your area). Grab a friend and do it together!

Lifting weights simply tones you up. You won't get bulky because women don't have enough testosterone to build muscle like that. You might not see a change on the scale, but when you are muscular or athletic, you tend to weigh more. I weigh 20 lbs less than what people think I weigh, but that's because I'm really fit.

Here is a wonderful website where you can track what you eat everyday. We use it in many of my classes. It's completely free. It tells you if you're getting the recommended nutrients you should be getting.

http://www.mypyramid.gov

Hi, well i have this really bad habit of eating loads of food when not needed and i cant get out of it, i find it incredibly hard. I am not exactly fat but i am gaining quite a bit of weight now pretty much everywhere and i have love handles which i HATE so much!! I cant go to a gym yet because im not 16 and i dont like running on my own and my friend who i usually run with is so annoying and never does it anymore. Its just so fustrating i dont know how to control my eating habits and how to exercise and how long to do it for any advice would be great thanks =] x (link)
Yes, habits are very challenging to break, so you should never make a drastic jump, just take it step by step. The first thing I'd advise you do is snack on HEALTHY foods instead. Aim for fruits, vegetables, or health snacks. Start drinking water instead of soda and cut all the junk foods out.

However.. did you know, it's better to eat five smaller meals a day instead of three big meals?? Take that into consideration.

Doing 20-30 min of cardio, 3-5 times per week will burn your fat. There are all kinds of DVDs you can get from Target, Meijer, etc (salsa, dance, kickboxing, pilates, yoga are all great). I find running for long periods of time very boring, which is why I love aerobics.

You can also check out http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/

They have good videos that I use! Good luck!!

i want to lose alot of weight. i have pretty big boobs AND I HATE THEM. people have said i dont need to but i want to. and if i lose weight could i possible make my boobs smaller. im 5'2 and im 16. I dont want to be skinny with big boobs. and how could i lose weight fast?? Thanks in advance. =] (link)
When you lose fat, you lose it overall on your entire body, so YES, you your boobs will get smaller if you lose fat.

You can't lose weight FAST unless you go on a crash diet, which is very unhealthy. You will lose lots of weight quickly, then gain it all back PLUS MORE once you get off the diet. I'm sure that's not what you want.

Your best bet is to eat HEALTHY and workout regularly. Cardio is the best way to burn fat. You can run, swim, do aerobics, sports, or anything as long as it gets your heart rate up and burns a sweat. Aim for at least thirty min, 3-5 times a week.

To lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume. Make sure you drink plenty of water too.

Good luck!!

P.S. I wish I had big boobs! Girl, you are blessed!

How long would it take to gain about 30-45 ponds? I eat fruits and fatty foods but weigh about 110 or something close? Don't tell me "oh you don't need to gain weight" I just need a straight forward answer. (link)
Do NOT listen to the retards who told you to eat junk foods!!! It may help you gain weight, but it will also lead you to high cholesterol and blood pressure, and maybe even a heart attack.

Stick to carbs and protein and make sure you weight train, which will build muscle. The key to gaining weight is eating more calories than you burn, but make sure they are HEALTHY calories. You'll gain that weight in no time.

how can you figure out what percentage of your body is fat? (link)
The most accurate methods of calculating body fat are with caliper measurements or the water-displacement method. However, you have to have these done by a personal trainer or at a health clinic or gym.

You can use the BMI method, however, this is not a trustworthy method since it does not take in consideration how much muscle you have. Like one of the previous replies says, it does not work for athletic people.

whats the most success youve had in trying to lose like 10 pounds?? what did you do? i need some help..thanks! (link)
Wow... okay first of all, don't listen to that girl talking about the Dancer's Tea. What she didn't tell you is that those teas have laxatives in them, which make you shit all the time. So they only reason you lose weight is because you're always on the toilet. If that's what you want to do, then go ahead..

The key to losing weight is burning more calories than you consume. So, workout more and eat smaller portions. Also, you can't eat junk food or soda. You have to eat healthy and drink plenty of water.
