I don't think it sounds like he's kidding. If he was joking, he wouldn't say the "I like you a lot" part unless he's a complete asshole. Bring it up even jokingly, like "hey boyfriend!" or something like that. You'll be able to tell whether or not he was serious from the way he reacts.
