Hi,
It's my junior year and I'm getting ready to narrow down my college search. Right now, Boston University, Oberlin (in Oberlin, Ohio), and USC (University of Southern California, located in downtown Los Angeles) are my top 3 choices, in reverse order.
My cumulative GPA is like 3.6, but since I'm taking 2 classes that count for AP credit this year, my guess is that my cum. will go up to a 3.8 or 3.9, weighted. I know that puts me in the bottom GPA range for these schools, though, but I think that my extracurriculars, incredibly strong leadership, and community involvement make up for that. At least that's what the USC rep told me at a college fair yesterday. My P-SAT scores were all between 540 and 600, also a liiiiittle low, but those can easily be raised. I have yet to take the ACT or SAT II, but I plan on taking both.
Are there any ways to really make myself stand out? I mean, I know that there ARE, but do they actually work?
How do I decide where I REALLY want to go?
Also, any other college advice would be greatly appreciated. I live in Southern California (Burbank), if that makes any difference. I want to major in Political Science or Music Education, seeing as I either want to practice law or teach vocal music (Particularly showchoir. We win nationals a lot, so I figure I can take that and create a successful showchoir).
Stories are appreciated, too.
If you answer, "I don't know, ask your college counselor lolzzzz," I will rate you poorly, probably a 1 or 2, depending on how you say it. Just so you know.
First off, I'd find out if any of the schools you're interested in do rolling admissions [they admit students as the applications are received], that way you can apply early and have a much better chance at getting accepted, rather than if you wait to apply. [I applied to two schools in November of my senior year, I got accepted very quickly because both schools had rolling admissions. Then I had nothing to worry about for the rest of my senior year, which was really great.]
Your GPA isn't low at all compared to some of the students you'll find that get accepted to the schools you want to go to. Same with your SATs.
Stuff like extracurriculars and ESPECIALLY community service, if you do a lot of it, will definitely make you stand out and impress the colleges. Community service is a huge thing nowadays.
It's good that you talked to the USC representative, they can offer a lot of help, so don't be afraid to ask them a ton of questions. And yeah, this one's obvious, but go to your guidance counselor because they have a lot of information and can help you set up interviews with the admissions department at the colleges of your choice.
You sound like you're a great student and involved in a lot, so I really wouldn't worry about getting into the college of your choice. You're only a junior, have fun being in high school, because before you know it high school will be gone.
I'm just looking for some good songs. Mainly soft, kind of indie genre. Something kind of like Colbie Caillat, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, ect. Anything would be appreciated. I'm just lacking musical motivation right now.

hello everyone, i heard some of my friends talking on this subject and one of them went into this big debate how gay people maybe the cause of aids, since they put their penis's in other mens buttholes and can pick up germs and diseases from there, could this be true?
I was just wondering not that i'm gay, i'm surely straight 100% guaranteed. But, if this is true then i was thinking i could use it for my R.E project.

I kinda wanna be emo, but not really. like, i love the style, but i have ALOT of preppy clothes, and they are getting kinda cluttered in my wardrobe. it's almost like i want a whole different style change. what would i have to do? i know i need things like skinny jeans, studded belt, hoodie, etc. and please dont say im being dumb by saying "emo"... i just dont know what else to say. please answer with kindness and advice.
I think with the skinny jeans, belts, etc, that's more of an emo/scene style, not like it really matters what you call it though haha, but anyways...If you have a lot of 'preppy clothes' now, you could still keep them, but just change the way you wear them and what you wear with them. Like if you have a polo shirt, pair it with some skinny jeans, converse sneakers, and a lot of accessories [and I mean A LOT, go crazy with them]. Find some long, striped shirts and pair them with colourful, tight hoodies, or a plain black hoodie which is always a classic emo look. Layers are good.
The emo/scene style is usually detailed and involves a lot of different pieces that come together for one look, I'd suggest that you go to a secondhand shop like goodwill or salvation army, and look for items like tight tee shirts with "80s" looks, like bright colours and pop art, and pair those with skinny jeans. You can also look for sweaters that would normally seem 'dorky', but if they fit your shape well, you can make them 'emo' with what you wear with it [skinny jeans, accessories, layers, maybe even get glasses as an accessory].
Then of course there's different emo and scene hairstyles and make up styles, you can find all of those by searching google, facebook, or even myspace.
Hopefully that helps a little bit, just go for what you like.

i read that gatorade gives more energy and i'll have a little more endurance than the water. but which is one better?
From what I've heard, if you're rigorously exercising for 90 minutes or more, drink gatorade. But if you're doing shorter practices or are taking breaks often during practice or games, I'd drink plain water. Gatorade and sports drinks like it have so much sugar, which you don't really need unless you're exercising for a long time.
Of course it's not gonna hurt you to drink gatorade if you're doing shorter exercise spans, but water is always good for you and doesn't have all that sugar.
My armpits get sweaty alot, even though i apply Degree men's antipersperent deoderant everyday. I dont know which kind to use now, because though i apply alot, i still sweat and im going into high school now, so i wont have tim everyday to reapply. Even when i do, i still sweat. Then, yellow marks appear under my armpit area, stained on my shirt. I can not wear tight t-shirts anymore becuase of this. What should i do?
If the 'secret clinical strength' stuff doesn't work either, go to your doctor and get a prescription for "Dry-Sol". It's easy to use, just follow the directions cuz if you don't it will sting really badly. But I use it and it works great, I just apply it once a week and then wear regular antiperspirant, and I don't get sweat marks.

Well you could try to be in both bands. I was in three bands at the same time at one point. But if that's too stressful, I'd say stick with your old rock band, don't abandon them just because you got offered something else, bands are about friendship and loyalty.
Tell your band about the offer and see what they say.
Ok so I was reading this question and it mentioned Tupac/2 pac was dead?! I'm confused, if he was dead a long time ago, how do I know about him? Cause I probably was little when he died so I wouldn't know. Can anyone tell me when and how he died? What happened? =O Maybe why I have heard about Tupac/2 pac when he was dead a long time ago? Tupac was shot and murdered on September 13, 1996 by a drive-by shooting, and it is often thought that another rapper's crew, Notorious B.I.G., were the ones who shot him, because the two rappers were rivals [east coast vs west coast].
You probably know about him because:
1. He still releases music and albums. When he was murdered he had a lot of unreleased material, so after his death it is still being released.

3. Some people believe that Tupac is actually still alive [that website you provided for example], but no one can prove that he is alive.

okay the other day my sister packed my gummy bear vitamins in a plastic bag that said " for Victoria" because we were going away on a trip. There were like twenty vitamins in there but anyway she didn't tell me what she did. So i grabbed the bag and started eating them and didn't realise till later they were vitamins. Now i have a pain in my lower stomache and i don't know if its because of the vitamins or something else. please help!!!!!!

You should be fine, but if the pain persists definitely go see a doctor.
Companies manufacture those kinds of vitamins while keeping in mind that it's easy for people to mistake them as real candy, so there should be no dangerous, poisonous, or long-term effects. You may just have a stomach ache from something else you ate, or it could just be similar to what you'd get if you would eat a lot of regular gummy bears.
Tell your parents about the pain and make sure you monitor it, if it gets worse go to the emergency room. Hope you feel better soon.
i've read many places that if you crush 2 aspirin and add it too shampoo then wash your hair with it, the mixture will remove dandruff.
does this actualy work? i'm afraid to put aspirin in my hair.
It can work, I know people that have done it, but it's a lot easier to just get anti-dandruff shampoo.
Plus nowadays they make so many different kinds of anti-dandruff shampoos and hair products that you can still get shampoos that smell really good and create healthy hair, there's really no reason not to use anti-dandruff shampoos, though it is sometimes recommended that you only use anti-dandruff shampoo a few times a week.

You're definitely not weird. A lot of people prefer to wait, which I think makes it better when you actually do get to do it. But if you really want to go further, find yourself a nice guy friend that you can trust, and eventually the hormones will start racing and you'll find yourself in a situation where you're able to do more than make out. Don't go looking for it, because people will judge you as a slut. Once you find someone, just keep your boundaries, don't do anything you don't want to, and be safe about it. Don't be stupid and get STDs or anything.

Last year, I lost alot of friends because these girls randomly decided they hated me for no reason and they were really rude to me, turned alot of my friends against me for no reason, etc. To make a long story short, I have basically no self-esteem now cause of them & I never want to be friends with them again in my life. About twenty of my other friends are at another school now & I never see them cause the county decided to redistrict them, so at the school I go to now, I only have ten more friends there. I have absolutely no classes with any of them though, but I have all of the classes with the girls that I really don`t like. Next year, my dad might be moving to Indiana and I either have to stay here with my mom & be separated from my dad and brother, or go with him along with my mom & be separated from the friends I have left. Ugh, right now things really aren`t going to good in my life. I guess I`m at the point in my life that everyone gets to at one point where you just don`t know what to do and my mom asked me if I wanted to go to talk to someone, but I said I don`t know. Should I take her advice and go talk to someone? Do they keep what you say to them in private or do they talk to your parents about what you say to them?
I think you should go see someone, it can really help a lot. You can relieve stress and gain confidence and self-esteem, and it's just really nice to have someone that you know you can talk to without having to worry about them judging you. I'd suggest trying a few sessions, find the right person for you, and if you don't feel comfortable with it or don't feel like it's doing anything for you, you can always stop going.
They keep everything private, as long as they do not feel that you are in danger of harming yourself or others.

My dream house has a big room that is like a moon bounce. I love those things.
And outside there would be a giant pool with a waterfall and stuff, and there would be a glass room submerged in the middle of the pool so you could sit in the room and be surrounded by the pool water.
And then in another room I'd have a carousel because I love them.
All the floors would be transparent and there would be a giant aquarium underneath, so it would look like you're walking on water, and you'd see all the pretty fish swimming around. That's all I can think of now.
all my life i've been really excited to go to college. i've always wanted to move out of my house and be on my own but of course i was too young. now im going to be a junior this upcoming year and at first i was so excited about starting to plan for college but now i'm scared. i don't know how im going to manage all my classes and having a roomate who i don't know anything about and having money and a job along with studying. im afraid that i won't make friends because i don't make friends easily. i have a lot of friends now but they're the same friends i've had all my life. when i think about not being able to see my friends for months at a time it almost brings me to tears. then i start to think about after college when i'll be completely on my own and its all so overwhelming. the only thing that makes me less nervous is thinking about learning a new subject and studying what im most passionate about. that would be architecture. i'm really excited about organizing my dorm room. even if i only get to decorate half of it. i don't know how to make myself less nervous. i'm excited about the educational part of it but i'm scared about my social life which is the most important part of my life right now.

I feel the same way as you, and I'm about to go to college in three days! haha it's insane.
You mentioned how you're scared about managing your classes, well in college, you really only have two or three classes a day, sometimes only one class a day. You'll probably have more free time than you expect, as many of the assignments in college are essays and projects, not so much the busy work you get in high school. As long as you stay fairly focused you will be fine, especially considering how you are passionate about architecture.
Having a roommate you don't know can be a pain, but it can also be a great way to practice making friends. It is really tough to leave the people you've known for years, but it has to be done, all you can really do is make sure you keep in contact and meet up with old friends whenever you are all home. As for meeting new people, there are so many people who are just as nervous and scared as you, and it will probably be overwhelming, but you will meet really friendly people that you can probably become great friends with. If you are shy now, use college as a way to change and become more extroverted, if you are already outgoing, then that's great.
You also mentioned having a job and money. Now I'm not sure if every campus does this, but I'm pretty sure they do. They offer "work study" jobs, which is basically working in the dining hall or library, and what they do is they work around your class schedule. So you could end up working only a few hours a day, but that way you are not overworked and you still get some extra cash from the job.
If you are worried about not having enough money to go to school, honestly don't be. If you're going for architecture, I'm sure you're intelligent and can get scholarships, they can help a lot. Also, you will get free money from your state, your school should be able to help you with that. And when those don't cover enough, get a loan with the help of your parents. Yes you will need to pay back a lot, but that will not begin until you are done with college, and being an architect I'm sure you will have a decent income and will not struggle for money.
If you are really nervous about the social aspect, perhaps you can go to a college that is not far from your home. That's what I'm doing, and I'm actually coming home every weekend too. You will find a lot of other people who have the same feelings as you do, it's a whole new stage in your life, an important one, so the transition will be a little rough, but you will get through it and have a great experience. Just try not to be scared, things will work out. :) Hope I helped a little.

I get all of mine at Kohls. There's also Five Below, Wal Mart or K Mart, or even the dollar store. Places like Hot Topic and Claires have them sometimes. But I think Kohls is the best, especially in the fall.

On season one, "Hoopz" won. During the flavor of love season reunion show, it was revealed that Hoopz and Flav were basically just good friends, and were not romantically involved.
Therefore Flav did another show to try and find romance again, and "Deelishis" won season two.
Apparently that didn't work out either because season three will be airing sometime in the future.
So my friend and I LOVE the band The Used. We've been wanting to go to a concert of theirs for about 3 years now and we are finally going to one this September. I've always wanted to meet them, it would be a dream come true. I know a couple of people who have met band members before concerts and stuff... has anyone ever met any band member and if so, how do you do it? I don't think they have meet and greets. Any advice on how to at least possibly just say hi to them? That'd be so freaking awesome. Thanks so much for your advice.
Well I met the band Fuel years ago. The way my friends and I did that was as soon as the concert was over, we ran outside and to the back of the venue, where the band will keep their tour bus/van, and where they load all of the instruments to and from the stage. We ran as fast as we could and made it to the loading dock, and just hung around there, eventually this guy saw our shirts [we made our own Fuel shirts] and gave us backstage passes. Like an hour later we finally got to go in a special room and meet the band.
Basically I'd suggest going on a fan forum for The Used and seeing if other people have info on a possible meet and greet or at least the best place to meet the band, if you find nothing then try running to the back of the venue after the show is over, just be patient. If you catch a glimpse of them, don't hesitate to say hi since you might only have one chance to get their attention. Good luck and have fun.
