At the begining of the year my biology honors teacher had us fill out a form about us. It asked what we wanted to be careerwise. I put that I wanted to be a journalist. The other day he read off what everyone wanted to be. The other kids wanted to be surgeons, and marine biologists..all really important things. When he got to my name he said "Journalist!....Good luck with that. She'll never get a job"
I was so embarassed! Everyone else had really important careers picked out and mine was so stupid. I'm not sure if I want to be a journalist anymore but now I have no idea what I want to do. I have to look at colleges next year and I have no clue what I want to major in. Can anyone help me? (link)
|
Some teachers are just hell bent on making everyone's lives miserable. He was just being mean cause the answer you gave wasn't what he wanted to hear. Major in what is important to YOU and not someone else! There are tons of opportunities in journalism- don't expect to be a writer for the New York Times the day you graduate college- but don't give it up.
Some great journalism schools are University of Missoui and Syracuse University. Good luck.

If I want to start/own my own clothing line, what would I need to major in in college? (link)
|
Don't major in Fashion Design or Art!! It won't help you run a business! Major in Management or Marketing! They are both subcategories of a Business degree. It is a difficult degree but I promise it will pay off.
|
I want to do something fashion related in college.
What type of fashion related majors are there?
I've tried looking on some colleges websites but none of them have major lists.
(link)
|
www.collegeboard.com is the best place to look up universities.
3 excellent design schools are
SUNY:FIT- Fashion Institute of Technology
RISD- Rhode Island School of Design
Parsons School of Design
look them up on collegeboard. There are all top rate fashion schools. Some majors include: specific design (such as womens, or swimswear, or handbags, etc), or fashion marketing, fashion merchandising, advertisment for clothing, fashion illistration, costume design, etc etc etc. There are many many options!

Do colleges look at just your last 4 years of high school? Or do they go beyond that? (link)
|
No university will look at anything before your high school grades- that also means, do not include things before high school on your resume- admissions does not care if you were best rester in kindgergarten.
Your Sophomore and Junior years are most important in applying to college. Don't forget about your resume cause it's important too.

hey i just wanna know if iam not a virgin will my husband know on the wedding night??? is there a way for him not to know? (link)
|
Not even your doctor can truly tell. Just because your hymen is broken does not mean that you're not a virgin. Your hymen can break from anything from horseback riding to gymnastics.
|
do guys prefer for a girl to fake an orgasm if they don't get one during sex? (link)
|
If you have to fake you have to fake. I've done it- lots of people have. A lot of men find it intimidating or insulting if you can't get it and most women don't every time. So if you have to then do it. Just make sure you're good at fakign lol
|
I've never had vaginal intercourse, but about 6 years ago I fooled around with my first and only bf. I performed oral sex on him and also let him perform anal on me without using a condom.
I tell everyone that I'm still a virgin and saving myslef for my husband. No one knows about what I did with my ex bf.
Should I get tested for any STD's? Just to be on the safe side? I know it was 6 years ago. Also, what are the chances that I could have caught something? (link)
|
I'm assuming that if you have not yet been tested that you have not been to a gynecologist either. If this is true it is high time to go! If you were sexually active six years ago then I assume you are at least around 20, so if you are and you haven't been to the gyno then it's really time to go. Just for your general health if anything. Please get tested. And if you can't afford a doctor then go to Planned Parenthood or your city's public health care provider.

Hi! Well i have like 20 belts (yeah i wear them i hate to waste clothes) and im running outta ideas of what to do with them (and hangers). Right now i have like bunches of 5 or howevermany fit in a hanger and on like 5 hangers. I dont like this idea, and i dont like putting them in my drawers either. I have more belts than clothes!! There are these things(I don't know waht you call them but I'll explain lol) at like Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens n Things and they are like coat hooks or towel hooks or anything hooks and you hang it over the door and the door still closes smoothly. They have around 12 hooks on them because they are double row. You could get one of those!
-or-
In my closet I have pushpins in the wall that I hang my belts on. Cheap and easy- no one has to see it!
-or-
My dad has an extensive tie collection and he uses a tie rack that you can get at lots of different stores. I think they have them at like Brookstone or Sharper Image or maybe at Wal Mart even. It could double as a belt holder.

K so about a month ago Mr. X (who doesn't know I exist) walked across my PE class to get the the basketball court outside. Usually we have people walking in and out all the time so it wasn't so odd. Other than that, I barely see him around school. I took a PE class to meet him maybe but he is in a more advanced class.
So today, I went inside his PE Class and was playing hoops when he walked in and looked at me with a suprised expression on his face and asked his friend "Is this the ------- right class?". I didn't understand why he would say that because usually people walk into the gym and play all the time.
So my friend and I moved to the outside courts and started playing hoops in the rain. There was only a guy at the edge of the court, trying to tie his shoelaces. Other than that it was just me and my friend. Then Mr. X walks outside with his friend and stands at the edge of the court with his friend, dribbling a soccer ball with his feet. Anyways, he just stands there for like 10 minutes, dribbling and talking to his friend. It was odd because everyone inside was playing ball and he led his friend outside to where me and my friend were playing.
Sorry if this is long but is he interested maybe or...? I rate 5's. (link)

err i don't want to break your heart but it sounds like he's just kind of a cocky guy that does what he wants when he wants and doesn't respect how other people react. i dont suggest getting your hopes up too high. sorry :-\

ok i am a cheerleader and my cheer grope is not getting better at alland we have some really really bad cheers and the head cheerleader is not letting us give her the cheers we know what do i do? i cant stand being a cheerleader any more but i want to still do it (link)
|
Don't quit yet because it might get better. But maybe start looking for another place to cheer- if not at your school then maybe a competitive team at a gym or something. Also try speaking to your coach. Don't accuse too much but make suggestions.

My second response:
Cashews are definitely ok, but make sure they are unsalted. Cashews are one the saltiest nuts naturally. I'm sorry you are unable to eat fruit- it is an excellent snack. Keep in mind though that while fruits do have sugar they are not bad for you! The key to a healthy diet (when I say diet I mean lifestyle not weight loss) is everthing in moderation! If you have a single serving of fruit in the morning, the afternoon and maybe instead of dessert at dinner then you aren't getting too much. But of course I don't actually know why you can't so.. I was going to come back and suggest dried fruit instead of regular fruit because it is a great snack but maybe not now. Good luck though- I'm sure you'll be able to figure this out! And remember- if your doctor tells you to do something don't forget to ask him how. If he says no fruit snacks say "well then what instead?" :-)
_______________________________________________
I think your best choices are actually the healthiest choices!
-grapes
-celery
-carrots
-nuts (not peanuts or salted nuts- walnuts, pecans, almonds etc)
-chocolate covered nuts(if it is dark chocolate, and in small quantities- it is very good for your heart! how cool is that)
-cherry tomatoes
-blueberries
-Cheerios or other non sugary cereal
-Raisins
-cheese cubes (cheese can stay in your purse for a little while- it would be like having it in your lunch and it wouldn't go bad in that short amount of time)
-I would say like apple slices or oranges but sometimes that can be a little messy unless it's already pealed.
-I wouldn't really recommend granola because it is very sugary. If it is homemade that's a little different but the chewy kind that comes with like chocolate chips in it is not really good for you at all. It's a snack that can be a good alternative for fruit snacks but I wouldn't recommend it.
Keep in mind- if not for snack, these are excellent things to add to your lunches and they are all very healthy! Tomatoes and blueberries are on the list of foods that help prevent cancer and help your body in ways you couldn't imagine! I think they are refered to as Superfoods??
Just put those snacks in a plastic baggy and you're good to go. Oh and use the half size bags, they hold less so you aren't tempted to put more than you need.

Hate to break it to you but pranks are really a senior tradition type thing. You won't have a lot of opportunity as a middle school student to do crazy things and chances are you'll get in a lot of trouble. I'm not going to tell you not to do it becuase I did my share of Senior pranks 2 years ago but most of them involved months of planning and many many many people helping.
We did a few crazy things over the year:
-A girl lived on a farm and she convinced her dad to let her put some of her animals in our courtyard in the middle of the night. Cows, chickens, ducks, pigs. It was funny and super smelly gross.
-Filled the library from back to front with confetti filled balloons. The only way they could get them all out was to pop them so it left a huge mess.. not very nice of us.
-Final and best prank of the year.. in the middle of the night about 30 of us were able to gain access to the school from a secret source and remove every single door from every part of the school from classrooms to offices to the outside doors. We would have done lockers if we had time but we didn't. They were placed in the auditorium that is almost never used so they wouldn't think to look there and we created a long scavengerhunt to get to it.

I hope you contacted the proper authorities and were hopefully able to give descriptions! If you have yet do to so it's still not too late!
Doing so will help you to know that someone is looking for the person who did this to you guys. The next step is that if this doesn't go away in a few days or weeks to contact a mental health care provider for futher assistance. Sometimes it just takes a few sessions to break everything down and before you know it you are you again. It is bad to let things linger because it starts to cause other problems.
I'm glad you were all able to get away!

I used a tampon for the first time tonight. I began to feel a little discomfort afterabout 30minutes to I took it out. However it hurt to take it out; I had to pull pretty hard. Is this normal? (link)
|
The reason it was hard to pull out is because you took it out too soon. Tampons are very absorbant obviously so if you take it out too early then it will be very dry and you will be also (sorry to be graphic). I suggest using a lite or super lite tampon until you get used to it. The reason it probably hurt the first time is because you put it in a little crooked.. but that is to be totally expected. You were probably scared and your hand was probably shaking and you were probably thinking "oh my gosh what am I putting into my body" but the thing is that it's totally normal and totally common. I used a tampon on my first period when I was 13 and I never looked back. It hurt a few times until I knew what I was doing but it gets a lot easier. If you are using one that is not lite or if you have a lite period a normal lifespan of a tampon is 4 hours. Anything less and it might hurt to pull it out unless you have a heavy flow. It will get easier so don't give up because you won't regret it later.

When a women is pregnant, does the pregnancy effect her discharge. Like, will she discharge more/less/the same during the day and so on. If pregnancy does effect discharge when is the earliest it could happen. Any reply will be REALLY apreciated. thanx (link)
|
I don't know about discharge but just a general warning in a similar direction. Your period obviously stopped when you are pregnant but you can still spot (and this is not uncommon). Just remember that if this happens to not panic unless it's a lot but definitely contact your OB/GYN. In terms of discharge I would imagine it stays similar to before- all women are different with their regular cycles so some of them discharge more than others. I wouldn't worry about it way too much but if you suspect something is wrong always contact your health care provider. You can never be too safe when it comes to your health or your pregnancy.

I a suffering from:
Chronic depression, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic attacks, an eating disorder, obsessive complusive disorder, and anger/low self worth problems. I don't see how I am still living. Could any illness occur from all these, I have heard you can deveop tumors and other various things from so many mental illnesses? (link)
|
I totally disagree with GDROB it is completely possible to have all of those disorders, however that is because some of them fall into the same categories. Social anxiety and panic attack are both components of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or GAD. You can have GAD with agoraphobia or without agoraphobia or with social anxiety but no panic or the opposite or many other combinations. It is called GAD because it is a generalization of disorders and it can encompass many things. Also your anger/low self esteem can come from your cronic depression and with GAD/OCD it can make it even worse. Many people who have OCD do not have rituals but they have an OCD mind (ie they cannot get an obsessive though out of their head and they don't know why it got there- this is also connected to anxiety). You self esteem issue/lack of control in your life is likely what caused your eating disorder. So you see (also you GDROB) that all of these disorders can be interwoven and frequently are. What is unfortunate for you is that they are all happening at once(which is not uncommon-many people who have eating disorders are also being treated for depression or other disorders).
Whoever said below something about ulcers is absolutely correct. This cannot cause tumors but if ignored or treated incorrectly it can cause ulcers, high blood pressure, flu like symptoms, etc. When you are depressed and spend your days in bed you will likely develop illnesses because of your lack of activity, lack of food, and lack of motivation. This could cause problems anywhere from sleep deprivation to obesity(yes depression cause effect your metabolism in a very mean way- but in your case I don't know what kind of eating disorder you have).
Please seek help from a mental health care provider asap! Don't go to some crazy psychologist that you find in the yellow pages- consult your regular physician for advice or look for a mental health clinic in your city as they usually hire some of the best of the field in your city. Remember that medication does not fix the disorder, you do. It only aides you along the way. A proper mix of therapy and medication will help you step by step. Good luck

Hi
I am diagnosed for Obsessive compulsive dissorder and Paranoid schizophrenia, However they are wondering if I have an intruding mental health issue, i.e. authism....? What may this be and can anyone please help...?
Thanks in advance (link)
|
I'm sorry but luckybutt is describing Autism Spectrum correctly. It takes many forms, often can be similar to, confused with or connected to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I would argue that Autism is more emotional and OCD is more irrational and ritualistic. I have lived with severe OCD my whole life. With a combination of therapy and medication (whether over the counter or some people swear my herbal..) it is managable..
I'm not highly familiar with the term "intruding mental issue" but from what I gather is it signal symptoms of the onset of a disorder. So it is unspecified but not undetected. I am not a doctor (yet) but my guess is that if you have OCD and Schizophrenia and have been diagnosed with GAD with social phobia.. then it is possible that you could develop into Agoraphobia which is advanced social phobia. Meaning you wouldn't leave your house, don't like to be touched by people, don't answer the phone/doorbell etc.
The best thing to do is to actually speak to your mental health care provider. A lot of people make the mistake of getting diagnosed and then not asking questions. It is the first step to fixing your problems. If you have signs of a mental disability be proactive in your research and recovery and you might be able to stop it before it starts.
______________
Also if you are curious.. I know it is a soap opera but All My Children there is a character called Lilly who has Autism Spectrum and they do an excellent job portraying the disorder. She's a wonderful actress and it is easy to believe that she really is Autistc. The writers really did their research.
