===IN THE THIRD PERSON:===Meet Kathryn: burlesquer, model, actor, ukulele-er, fantastic cook, and font of wise words and amusing anecdotes. She loves to listen to you and, if she can, help you with your troubles, or, if she can't help, direct you to someone who can. And that's why you're here, no? ~grins~
Kathryn is a person of wide and varied experience. Her only routine is to try something new every day. She has met many people in her travels from many different backgrounds, countries, and expertises. "Knowledge junkie" is something Kat frequently calls herself.
===THINGS I FEEL QUALIFIED TO GIVE ADVICE ABOUT:===
***romantic relationships
***general and nutritional health (I disclaim: I am not a doctor, nor a certified nutritionist yet...I merely have read a lot, experienced a lot in my own life, have personally heard testimonials on a variety of health issues and healthy lifestyle practises, and am a yoga instructor and Ayurvedic health consultant)
***sexual health
***technology (computers specifically, but other techie things like me too ^_^)
***philosophy, theology, and psychology
***social issues
***crafty artsy thingies (excuse the technical jargon)
===POSSIBLE POLITICAL/IDEALOGICAL CONFLICTS WITH YOUR OWN VIEWS:===
*I was raised as a Catholic (the Roman kind), I went to Catholic parochial grade school, I attended a Catholic high school (a Sacred Heart school), and now I attend a Catholic Jesuit university. Although I don't call myself Catholic or Christian, I respect and acknowledge the good things I was raised with.
*I am not prejudiced against any ethnic, socioeconomic, or cultural background.
*I am not prejudiced against any religion or spiritual path, including a lack of one (atheism, don't-give-a-damn-ism).
*I am not prejudiced against any sexual orientation or gender identity. I myself am romantically and sexually queer, physically female, mentally gender-f***ed. If you ever want to talk about sexual orientation and/or gender identity, don't hesitate to contact me! I am working toward a sexology degree, and these things interest me immensely!
*I don't care for politics very much, but I respect the people who are wise with their words and respectful to others.
===SOME QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE FOR ME (BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY ASK YOUR QUESTION):===
"You're only 24! You don't know anything about the world. How could you possibly give me advice on anything?" Perhaps I am fairly young to be giving advice to people. But I do know this: everyone who has ever come to me looking for counsel has always told me, either during or right after our "sessions", that I am not overly critical, that I am honest and fair, that I am sensitive and understanding, that I am open-minded and tolerant, that they can count on me to give a good outside objective perspective, and (something I think is most important in being an advisor) that I am a good listener.
"What types of things do you give advice on?" Well, I can give you advice on almost anything, really. If I personal experience with what you're asking about, I'll patch it through. If I don't, I'll put in my two cents and let you know where you can get more firsthand knowledge.
"Why do you write sooooo muuuuuch?"
I'm a writer, I blabber sometimes, heh. I do take a lot of care in my writing though, I want to give you a well-thought-out answer. But the other reason I write so much is because I don't want to give you a one-sentence reply, unless it's to a very black-and0white question like "What time does 'House' air on Tuesday in Cincinnati?"
===IN CLOSING:===
You got questions? Lemme at 'em!
I wish you all lives filled with tasty food, goofball antics, and people you love to share them with you.

what are some signs of alcohol poisoning? and what does it mean when you throw up blood?
i think it's different for different people. generally, if you're dead, and you just drank a whole lot of alcohol, then most likely, the cause is alcohol poisoning. :P utilise your good friends google and wikipedia for more information on it.
da rum-lovin' kitty says: drink responsibly, not excessively, and only the good stuff. beer is the meth of alcohol. don't drink and park; accidents cause people. ^_^

Ok soo today i went out and I bought a conair straightner...wid 2 crimpers and a star (changable plates). Anyway my hair is semi- straight..it's like straight but is still wavy. Does anyone have this type of hair and straighten it? See my hair's long and I have too go to this event this weekend comin and i don't want to waste my time and have it loook bad!!!
Thanks,
jamee
i have a huge-ass long answer to a similar question on my column. but for the shorter, less-in-depth answer, are the conair straightener plates metal or ceramic? ceramic plates are the best. go see the one answer on my column for links to websites for some good products and such.

me and my x bf have been on and off for 2 years and even if were off were still kinda together...like holding hands..etc...and one day he went to a party and got with a girl..and he called me that same nite and told me that all my friends are going to be lying to be the next day sayign that he got with someone but its not true...well i found out its true and he admitted it to me...and i just want to know if i have a right to be mad..because he doesnt think so...
at the risk of overreacting and blurting out the first thing that comes to my mind...
do you have a right to be mad?? um, HELL YES. he doesn't think so??? um, HELL WHAT THE.
what do you mean by "he went a party and got with a girl"?? he made out with her, he hung around her all night, she kissed him on the cheek, they were involved in a rainbow lipstick competition, he drunkly declared to any and all passerby that she was his girlfriend...?
and, although you do have a right to be upset, are you two officially together, as in, dating, and both of you accept statements like:
YOU: he is my boyfriend, exclusively.
HIM: she (as in you) is my girlfriend, exclusively.
from what you tell about the situation, he sounds like a bit of an ass to me. but i don't everything that's going on here, so i'll try not to pass judgement.
as for what you should do, it seems like he's prone to sneakery, half-ass-ed-ness, and lieing. and if he's a half-ass-ing sneaking liar (although, apparently, a really bad liar...), i'd lose this guy if i were you.
hope this helped. good luck babe.

I truly want to learn Latin and i heard it was a lot of fun though i have been taking Spanish for a year and i know how useful it wuold be...i could take both languages but i am afraid it might be too much...WHAT SHOULD I DO?
well, to be realistic, it's not likely you'll learn latin like you can learn spanish. a lot of that is because it's not a living, breathing, spoken language anymore. however, i don't discourage you from learning a bit. a little bit of latin is very, very useful when dealing with spanish words you don't know, and even english ones. i know at my school they offer a latin vocabulary class as an elective, but i don't know what they have at your school. if you want to do some independent study, utilise your friends google and wikipedia. ^_^
hope this helped. bona fortuna!!

ok..i want to become a model but i have a few problems..im not exactly skinny enough to be a model..i think that if i loose weight and start working out more, maybe i can do it. I mean im not like 300 lbs im just like 20 lbs above my ideal weight..I also have a pretty good looking face..lol..what should i do?
-Shawn
all righty then. first off, models do not have to be made of pencils covered in skin. it's more common for models to be on the thinner side, but don't let that deter you. working out is fine, even great (speaking of which, i'm kinda gettin' outta shape, i should go lift some weights... ^_^), just make sure you don't do it an excessive amount. that seems to be one of the most dangerous things nowadays. as long as your diet (and when i say "diet" i mean the things you eat, NOT trimspa or slimfast or whatever else) and your excercises keep to a basic routine that's healthy yet challenging and in accordance to your body type. which brings me to my next little blurb...
what do you mean when you say "ideal weight"? i'm not sure what your bone structure, family history, height, etc. are, so i couldn't tell you what your normal healthy weight should be. you can find a bunch of things online that can give you an idea for what your weight should be around for your height, family history, etc., etc., blah blah blah. the next time you go to your doctor, ask them if they think you're at a healthy weight, or if they think that you are above or below.
a pretty good looking face, heehee. you should consider working in print modeling, which is for things like catalgues and such. i'm going to be doing some modeling over the summer for some extra cash and to add to my acting/theatre resume, and it's mostly or completely going to be print modeling. i can't be a runway model; i'm too short (only 5'2). :P
if you really want to persue this, then you go do it!! just remember: NO CRAZY DIETS OR EXCERCISE PROGRAMS. that last one is my most forbidden one. well, no. the second-most. the MOST forbidden thing is losing your confidence or letting yourself be put down because you're not made of skin-covered pencils. ^_^;
hope this helped. good luck!!

ok so i have this wonderful boyfriend and he is wonderful and all the girls in school like him but i also like my neighbor who is super hot. he has a great personality and he always gives me rides on his motorcyce and me and him made out once and kissed a couplle times and i could tell he is in to me to. i kinda see my neighbor as more boyfriend material because my boyfriend was my best friend in seventh grade and he seems like more of a friend to me now. and so my neighbor gets more sexual with me and i like it the aggresiveness. i dont know what to do i fell i love them both!!!
so your wonderful boyfriend is...wonderful? ^_^ sorry, i'm being a dork. ok, so let's look at this here. your boyfriend shall be henceforth known as popcorn, and your neighbour as butter. (lol, sorry, i work at a movie theatre, and i just came back from work, so bear with me, i have a point with those names, i promise)...
so you've got some wonderful popcorn (the boyfriend), but you like hot butter (neighbour-boy). well, unless popcorn is very understanding and let's you have some butter with him, you've gotta pick one, you can't pick both (i almost said "you can't have your cake and eat it too", but that would have been just throwing even more food analogies in here...). now while i give major points to any guy who owns a decent motorcycle, takes care of it, and can drive it (without showing off like a dumbass), and while personality and sexual prowess are important as well, those things don't necessarily make him better boyfriend material. what's wrong with having your boyfriend popcorn be like your best friend? i'm a firm believer that you should be good friends with both boyfriends and make-out buddies. :P also, not to accuse the hotsy butter here, but if he gets more sexual with you, there's a possibility that that's mostly what he wants, therefore not placing him under the category of "good bf material", at least not in my book.
again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the making out stuff (unless you've been puttin' butter on your lips when you're really restricted to just havin' popcorn ^_^; that's not exactly fair the cinema snack or the artificial yellow fat, heh...), because believe me, i find it actually pretty important! but is that all you really want da butter for? if a make-out buddy's what you want, if you're comfortable with it, and if your popcorn-boy doesn't mind (which is hard to believe and rather unlikely), go find a good girl-friend of yours or just another girl who you wouldn't mind making out with. ^_^ i know that sounds a little funny, but hey, my boyfriend gives me permission, and it doesn't make me love or desire him less, it actually makes me love/desire him more!! oy, i am kind of a perv, aren't i? oh well. ways of any...
you want a more aggressive treat that popcorn, eh? good on you that you'll admit that. i myself like an aggressive guy (or girl, depending on my mood :P ha), and i'm lucky because my boyfriend is that way. i'd talk to popcorn about it and see what he says. or you could even bring it up, verbally or physically (oh sweet lord, i just realised that that could be taken REALLY badly... -_-;) the next time you two make out. tell him that it would be ok if he wanted to be a little rougher (or i suppose, more aggressive, if you like that phrase better) with you during the physical stuff and that he doesn't need to hold back. or try and gently tell him that you'd like him to be a little more aggressive. communication is so ridiculously and almost annoyingly important in a relationship. ^_^ and besides, who says the guy couldn't learn a few things? you'd be surprised at the results you get from a few questions and requests.
(prepare yourself for more movie theatre analogies :P) before you make a hasty decision at the snack bar of love (sheesh, that was awful ~_*), there are a few things you need to think about.
1) what do you want to get, something hearty and healthy that will probably last you longer, or something orgasmically greasy and good (i'm so dirty...) that won't last very long and your thighs will throw jewish-guilt on you later?? (basically, is your current boyfriend more reliable and trustworthy and there-for-you like a best friend--which is what a boyfriend should be like first and foremost, a best friend--than your neighbour who seems like the more exciting more desirable choice? also, a note: we always want what we don't/can't have. when you get the butterfinger minis, you sit down in the theatre and disappointedly wonder why you didn't get sour patch kids instead.)
2.) how much money do you have in your wallet? can you afford to get extra butter on your popcorn without suddenly tripping and dropping the bag of popcorn because there's so much hot butter in it?? (sorry, i'm gonna let you ponder that one. i'm tired, and it wasn't a great analogy, but i think you get the basic idea... ^_^)
just remember. you need to honest and forthright with both guys. if you like them, you owe it to them to talk these things through with them, completely, not partially. weigh your decision based on what you really want and how it will affect you three in the long run. the hotsy totsy neighbour will probably still be there for you to suck face with (if you'll pardon the expression that i borrowed by my bf's parents :P) if someday you break up with your boyfriend. and who can say? perhaps plain passive popcorn will transform into a spicy dish of nachos with jalepeno cheese!! (all right, no more movie theatre analogies from me for a decent amount of time.........)
hope this helped. good luck!

i am deciding to do diploma in compuer engineering as i have finished my 10th exam. i wish to pursue a career in game designing & development. after diploma i'll do graduate course . what should i do to pursue a career in game designing & development. please help me.
yay, there's one more potential game designer in the world!!
well, depending on where you live, you should try and find colleges and universities that either specialise specifically in technology development, design, and application, or that have those kinds of studies and are very highly ranked in that area. i live in the omaha area and although it seems like a tiny school, UNO (university of nebraska at omaha) has a very, very good school of computer sciences. i mean, do you know how many asians come here just for that?! (sorry, i meant no offence by that, i just went a little carlos mencia...). utilise your friends google and wikipedia to find other schools, and look for ones with intership opportunities so you can get experience in the actual field. you'll learn more things plopped in front of a computer with no outside instruction than you ever will from a textbook. ^_^
one definite way to get ideas and experience: PLAY VIDEO GAMES!!!!!!!! depending on whether you want to work in the gaming industry as a person who thinks up this awesome centaur in a tutu that does a fiery pirouette and drop-kicks opponents, or as a person who figures out the actual codes and programing requirements for the tutu to move realistically and how blood will drip down the walls after the opponent is thrown against it, you should play different games that are highly technologically- or visually-ranked, as well as story/plot, player view, sound, graphics, game play style, etc.
play around with sample codes and programs you can find on the web for game development. start with simple programming programs (like basic, python, etc.).
hope this helped. good luck! make me a video game someday!!

ok so im a virgin and im 17 never had sex! but ive become ill and for 3 years now ive kept getting urinry tract infectins and this time the doctor said its cythlis or something and im thinking ive not had sex ever why do i keep getting them and what is the doctor thinking? I have to questions one is they have sent some medicine so i need to start that but im really worried because my pubic area feels all tingly. Also when im older if i have sex i heard that the man can catch it and im really worried. Also will i get better and will this go away someone help me please. thank you in advance.
ok, prepare yourself for a potentially embarrassing question: do you masturbate, or at least, a significant amount; and do you have a sexual partner (not sexual intercourse, but there are TONS of sexual things outside of actual intercourse) that man-handles you down there a lot? don't hit me, i'm not a perv, i just know that those are some things that can cause things like cystitis.
other things like diet, stress, (don't hit me ) the material your underwear is made of, and even what kind of soap you use in the shower (or lack of soap and washing your pubic area) might possibly be the reason, or at least, a contribution.
one thing you can do is utilise your best friends (other than advicenators of course ^_^) google and wikipedia and do some research on cystitis and urinary, bladder, and possibly vaginal infections. however, you should really go to your doctor or maybe a different doctor (i'm sure there's a specialist for things like this) and thoroughly checked out. if the medication you've been given is make your pubic area feel tingly, i'd ask about that too, they can probably give you something else, especially if you're having an off reaction with your current meds.
hope this helped. good luck!

ok so me and my boyfriend broke up like 3 or 4 days ago i'v only been eating like 1 meal a day everything just taste nasty. I dont want to go back to being anerxioc so how do i like start eating back to normal again.
i have to say that i disgaree with holisterbabe. i think that the emotional stress that breaking up with your boyfriend could cause you to lose your appetite or to return to anorexic habits. don't eat anything too filling or strong or rich for a while, like a week, but try to keep regular meal times. you need to stay in the habit even though the part of your routine includes things you'd do with your boyfriend.
if the things you're trying to eat seem unappealing, try some different foods. no junk food if you can help it. at least, not much... ^_^ you should be eating hearty foods that don't count as "empty calories", like me eating a billion things from the snack bar a week and then still being hungry. damn you, metabolism. damn you i say!!
good snacks to eat for during the middle of the day (or in between breakfast'n'lunch, and lunch'n'dinner, like i do): cashews (honey roasted are EFFING GODLY; pretty much most any kinds of nuts; peanuts, macadamia, even soy if you like 'em), balance bars (somewhat of an acquired taste, but they're pretty good), granola bars (i accidentally typed "bras" three times before i spelled "bars" :P i'm tired...), just granola, sunchips, fruit (a really tasty trail mix can be made from dried cranberries and cashews and granola ^_^)... but remember: THE SNACKS CANNOT REPLACE THE REAL MEALS.
make sure you've got people for emotional support who you can talk to and they can help you keep going. i'm sure all of us here at advicenators would be glad to fill that position, i know i would! if you need somebody to talk to, ask for my email and/or SN (i'm on AIM, YM, Gtalk, and Skype). i've had a few friends with eating disorders so i know what you're going through. it's hard, but just stay strong, remind yourself of your goal, and utilise your friends (and advisors ^_^) for help.
hope this helped. good luck luv!

my boyfriend wants to give me a gold diamond ring and i told him no but he said he is going to buy it any way should i let him i will feel bad though cause he is wasting his money on me but he said he is not but still he talks about getting me stuff but i say no then i say i am going to get him things and he says no can anyone help me on how me and him can buy eachother things without the guilt? plez help fast he is gonna get the ring on wednessday
like traci said, find out why he wants to get the ring for you. is he feeling like he's going to lose you and needs to find a way to keep you? i know that my boyfriend has been wanting to buy me a silver ring (i like silver better :P), though he hasn't gotten it yet (well, we haven't gotten it yet, he needs to take me with him because neither of us know what my ring size is... ^_^;), but i've been trying to get him to hold off on it for a while.
if you can't convince him to not buy the ring, try and strike a compromise. say that he can get you some earrings, or another ring (like silver?? ^_^) with a semi-precious stone instead of a precious one (meaning like amethyst, moonstone, opal) or a zirconia stone instead (looks like a diamond, but it's not one ^_^).

Ok i can only seem to find converse extra high (roll downs) on eBay and i dont want to buy off there incase they are fakes....is there any chance anyone knows any shops that sell these?? Please dont suggest random possibilities as shops e.g. Hargreaves do not stock this particular type.
*I rate :)
xordinarygirlx
eeebaaay!! ^_^ kitty loves her ebay...it took me a second to remember what converse roll downs were. :P
now while this option is sometimes not as conveniant as ebay, and even though you said don't suggest random possibilities at shops, i still have to prod you to check out vintage shops (vintage websites could be helpful too) and good will. it usually works better when you're not looking for the things, but whenever you're out, just keep an eye open. still, searching the web is a little more efficient.
looking on ebay, i can see that you do have a few choices. carefully check all the info on each of the items, including pictures. email the sellers and ask them about their items, in my experience they've all been very helpful (i mean, they bothered to put the item up for auction with pictures and everything...)
also, check out some other auction sites besides ebay, and check froogle (product google search).
hope this helped. good luck in your shoe quest.

okay so i have been working at this job for 2 years now and one of my managers became like my best friend we talked about everything and hung out all the time, and all of a sudden she started being so mean to me and actually made me cry! she wont help me get days off that i need and she talks behind my back well now i have another job but really need both jobs for the money what should i do thatis reasonable should i ignore it because that always is harder to do!! HELP
i'm so sorry to hear that! i know it sucks when good close friends all of a sudden seem to dislike you, avoid you, etc.
is she having problems outside of work that could be affecting her attitudes towards people (i.e. boyfriend issues, parent problems, fights with other friends...)? does she think that you did something to her behind her back or something that would make her respect you less (um, i dunno, smoke pot, be, erm, promiscuous??), or does she think you (or maybe did you) say something that offended her (something about her, or that george w. sucks, etc.)?
like uhohxomfg said, you should try talking calmly to her about it. don't just bring it up randomly, ask if you can talk to her about some things (make one of them something about work). be cautious in how you treat her and talk to her. it's easier than people would think to be overly-nice and overly-concerned and annoyingly smothering.
hope this helped. send me an update on the situation if you'd like. good luck!

There is a guy I really like (who also has the slight potential of liking me back). He's very funny and actually very polite and nice. However, he doesn't seem to be a very devout Christian, because he cusses. Even though I cuss sometimes, I feel like he may have a bad influence on me in that way, and I know from Bible study that I'm supposed to surround myself with people who share my beliefs and are going to be a good influence. But there seems to be something wrong with that, because if I cuss now and then, I may be a kind of bad influence on others too, and they wouldn't want to be around ME either. I guess what I'm trying to ask is...would it be okay to continue to flirt with this guy and (if it works out right) date him? Sorry, this was kind of long and confusing... btw, I'm almost 16, if that helps any.
ah, young love... ok, so it's a-little-more-than-a-year-younger-than-me young love, but still... ^_^
all right, i'm not gonna lie. i do swear on occassion. more than once a day usually, but mostly just things like crap and damn and SOB (i'm hardly ever calling anybody that, it's usually just an angry exclaimation when i haven't done my homework ^_^;). and i'm not gonna lie and say that my friends and parents (well, my mom, but she was raised on a farm, heh) don't curse. in fact, they swear more than me, and my profanity level hasn't increased dramatically due to hanging out with them over 4 years (just due to more tests and worrying about college stuff). so as long as you check yourself on your speech every now and again, i'd say you'll be okay. if you start slipping more ****s into your vocabulary and you think it's because you're hanging out with this guy, then just practice more control what comes out of your mouth. but i think you will be ok.
as for him not seeming like a "very devout christian", is cussing the only thing that makes him seem that way to you? or does he make a lot of obscene gestures at grade school girls and then go mug prostitutes and use their earnings to go illegaly buy liquer, and then say that his master beelzebub made him do it?? heh, i kinda doubt that he's THAT bad. ^_^ you're afraid he might have a bad influence on you? well, have you thought about how you might be a good influence on him?
basically, if you like him, and he likes you, he doesn't ask you to join his get-child-sacrifice-legalised group, and if it's fairly safe to say that he won't get you in jail (or himself for that matter :P ), then go ahead and flirt and hang out and, if you should so desire, go out.
no worries about your question being too long. i've seen much longer, and usually the problem is people being too short with their questions. ^_^ sorry about some of my crazy examples, i was a little graphic, please forgive da kitty...
hope this helped. good luck!

i currently asked a question about jobs for a 14 year old. the best one i've found & like is walking dogs. 1. i like to exercise 2. it seems like it might pay good
I was thinking about walking the dog for 20-45 minutes. Mostly around 30 min. How much do you think i should charge?
and where can i put papers so tht people can call me & wat would i put on them?
if you have anything tht would help me its greatly appreciated. and if you don't have ansers to all the questoins its cool.
first, let me applaud you for taking the innitiative to try and find a job; i just got my frist real paying job a few weeks ago. ^_^
as for how long to walk the dog, it probably depends on what kind of dog you're walking, how big, how old, how fat... :P
as for what to put on the posters and where to put them, make it short'n'sweet'n'simple, with a big bold title that says something like "need your dog walked? i'll do it!" or "no time to walk your dog? call 555-1234 and ask for Dog-Walker!" or something like that. then probably you want a simple picture of a dog or a hand holding a leash (with or without a dog). if you really wanted, you could have a subtitle beneath the picture that says something--again, something simple--something like "keep your dog healthy" or something like that.
for payment, you probably want to give a semi-set price for several kinds of dogs, maybe in relation to size or for how long they need to be walked. i wouldn't charge more than $10 per walk, because even that would be pushing it. you might want to put something like "prices negotiable" on the poster too. people will usually be willing to give you more than what seems like a standard price, especially when you're a younger kid (no offence meant... ^_^;)
where to put them? how about people's doors in your neighbourhood that have dogs? think bulletin boards! churches, libraries, pools, etc., also on poles and such along sidewalks where the traffic usually fairly steady, like the park and other places where people go with to walk their dogs.
a word of warning: don't be too put out if you don't drum up much (or any for that matter) businss. someimes people just don't want to give us workin' kids a break... ^_^
hope this helped. good luck!

like i have super thick hair. and its pretty long to it takes me like 1hour and a 1/2 to straighten it is it bad to straighten your hair like twice a week? what does it do? my friend told me that she straighted it like twice a week and now it is easier to straighten. is that true?
i've got long big thick hair, so i know your predicament well! ^_^
there are several things you can do to make it easier on you. (there is always the salon chemical-straightening option, but i wouldn't touch even that idea with a 10-foot pole, so if you want that quicker/probably-worse-for-your-hair answer, then don't read on. if you want another way, go dive into this lengthy answer i've given, but be prepared for detailed/helpful/useful answers).
first, if you're not extremely opposed to it, think about getting your hair thinned out a little and maybe layered a little the next time you have a haircut. it may feel like all of a sudden you have so much less hair, even if the stylist didn't take much off, but you get used to it, and your hair will thank you when it stays healthier and more manageable for longer.
second, shampoo and conditioner. i use garnier fructis long & strong, which works really well with long thick hair. it keeps hair clean, works to strengthen it, and smells really good too. ^_^
ok, i go a little nutso here, but trust me, i'm being specific because it works!!
because my hair is so long and thick (and because i'm not a morning person), i almost always take my shower at night. again, trust me, i have reasons for all this, and it works. ^_^;
some tips for before you get in the shower: brush/comb out your hair, starting from the ends, and working your way up till you can brush through it all easily. use a little water if it'll help brush through it easier, either wetting the brush/comb or wetting your hands and then running your palms back over your hair in long strokes.
some tips on washing: get all your hair good'n'wet, especially the top of your head, down to the roots (people like us with really thick hair will sometimes tend to not soak all of our hair down to the underside). get like half-a-handfull of shampoo and, starting with the top, work it through and lather it up on your scalp, making sure to massage it well into all of your hair, especially the roots and the ends. get a shower-ok brush (here's a good static-free one for in- and out-of-shower use: http://www.cachebeauty.com/images/cricket/cricket_fast_flow.jpg)
and, starting from the ends, comb through all of your hair until it brushes through easily (don't rip your hair out or pull too hard! ^_^). rinse with warm--not hot--water, starting with the top of your head and working your way down, brushing through your hair every now and again as you go along.
some tips on conditioning: as soon as you get all of the shampoo washed out, get maybe a little less-than-a-handfull of conditioner (depending on how dry or greasy your hair can get). start with the ends, putting a fair amount of the conditioner on them by rubbing it in on the bottom 2 inches or so, and work your way up, combing it through the rest of your hair with your fingers, not getting too much on any one spot (especially the top of your head), but be sure to get a tiny bit extra (again, depending on how dry or greasy your hair gets) massaged into the roots. brush through it all in long strokes once or twice with your fingers, and then again once or twice with the brush. clip it up (i usually take all of my hair like i'm going to ponytail it, and twist it to the right and up, then clip it near the top, so i have a kind of loose short ponytail) or put a hairband with no metal piece on it around it and make a loose bun. go about whatever else you do for the rest of your shower (as long as it doesn't exceed up to 10 minutes, but if your hair tends to get greasy, don't leave the conditioner in for more than 5 or 6 minutes; you might consider rinsing the top of your hair a little while its up before you go on to your other showering tasks). once you've done everything else, take your hair down and rinse it with as cold of water as you can stand (it doesn't have to be icy, just not warm or luke-warm). this'll help with frizzies and the crazy involuntary volumising. brush through your hair while rinsing it. don't rinse for more than a minute or a minute-and-a-half, or you'll rinse out the conditioner you want to stay in. once you've turned the water off, run your palms back over your hair, starting at your forehead and hairline and going to the tips, and squeeze out a little more than half (2/3rds or so) of the excess water. brush through you hair once more before you get out of the shower.
don't take more than 5 minutes or so to do whatever you do after a shower (you still want your hair to be fairly damp) so we can move on to...
the third thing: PRODUCT. i go a little crazy again (all right, really REALLY crazy and specific) but, here's what i use, in order of when i put it in after my shower, and how i use it. (i usually get on my knees with my head bent down and foward over a towel, and brush my hair downwards so it's smooth and straight before i put any product in.)
1) BEDHEAD-TIGI- headrush adrenaline shine. first off, let me say that bedhead products do not only posses awesome titles and wicked packaging but mad crazy hair-shaping skills as well. ^_^ i spray this all over my hair, especially on the ends. you don't need to use half the bottle, just a fair amount. then i brush it all through with the same brush i use in the shower.
2) fructis long & strong anti-split ends treatment, a creamy smoother. i use about 2.5-3.5 squirts of this, rub it evenly over all of my palms, and comb it through with my fingers starting at the ends where i use it most and going up. brush it all through!
3) BEDHEAD-TIGI- after-party smoothing cream. i use about 2 or 3 pumps of this (or whatever a little bit less than what i used of the fructis treatment is). same basic procedure as #2 hereafter. make sure to brush it all through.
4) possibly a little more bedhead headrush. ^_^ also, if my hair is acting up somehow (extra frizzy, extra scraggly, really dry, really limp, etc.), this is where i usually put on products that i'm trying out, like hair serums for my ends and such.
5) my favourite thing to do is being undressed. um. yeah... just kidding. ^_^ that's the name of one of THE BEST hair products i have ever found. "rusk! being undressed". one little tub will usually last me about 3 or 4 months. i only use a little bit, 'cause this stuff goes a long way. it's a waxy almost-pomade type of product, so i start with just a little bit on my fingertips, then i rub it around evenly on my fingers. i use the majority of it on my ends, then the remainder (plus mabye a little more) gets finger-combed through the rest of my hair. make sure that you don't goop it on your fingers too thickly, if used incorrectly the results can be disastorous!! not really, heh, a piece of your hair might just dry stiffly. finally, brush it all through again, and maybe spray on some more bedhead headrush for extra shine.
afterwards, i usually wrap my hair up in a towel and sleep in it. if i wake up in the middle of the night, i might take it off and lightly brush through my hair once or twice, then wrap it up again or just go back to sleep if my hair is dry enough. sleeping with your hair in the towel helps to keep all of the stuff in and to let it soak into your hair and strengthen it and make it soft and shiny. and smelling good; i can guarantee that your hair will smell good after all this! ^_^
ok, so now, finally, in reference to what you actually asked, the fourth thing: straightening. especially when dealing with big think hair, DO NOT under any circumstances be possessed by the anti-hair-fairies and use a metal straightener (sorry, i have no idea where that came from...). i know it can be a little pricey, but straighteners with ceramic plates are the best. a relatively affordable one can be purchased at walgreens.com (ceramic double-ionic straightener by conair).
twice or thrice a week, regularly, should be often enough to keep your hair relatively straight and manageable. use a static-free brush to gently brush through all of your hair, starting from the ends and going up. get a bunch of little clips, hair ties, etc., so you can seperate the pieces of hair you're going to straighten. you don't have to, but it sometimes makes it easier to do two layers, one around the top of your head and one below that. in each of the two layers, seperate sections of hair into little ponytails. you don't want to have the sections be too big or the straightener plates won't get all of the hair.
take the clip/hair-tie out of the first ponytail (it's usually easier to start with the front one on the top of your head). start at the top of the section, as close as you can get the straightener to your scalp without burning yourself, and clamp down gently on the hair. the ceramic plates will work a lot faster than metal ones so immediately start gently pulling downwards, alternately holding the unstraightened and straightened hair (careful! the straightened hair you just left behind will be HOT), and go all the way to the tips of the section. you can lightly comb through it with a small toothed comb if you want to go over the hair with the straightened once or twice again. once it's good enough for you, set down the straightener and clip/tie the ponytail back up (here is where a clip is useful, because you don't want to snaggle up the hair you just straightened). you want to keep your finished work seperated from your unfinished work.
continue on, repeating the process, with each of the ponytails on the top layer. once you've finished the top layer, you can gently gather all of those ponytails and carefully twist and clip them, or just clip them, to the top of your head (or even in front if you can manage). next, do the bottom layer, repeating the above process. finally, take out all of the clips/ties and gently brush through all of your hair. if you feel like it, you can lightly go over a few pieces with the straightener again. here's another place where bedhead headrush is really useful. spray it over all your hair and then brush through it. brushing through the headrushed hair is what makes the shininess start working.
wow, this has been ri-DIC-u-lously long. i apologise. u_u; but on the bright side you've gotten a lot of tips from another big-thick-long-haired person. ^_^

I downloaded the Super Mp3 Wav Converter (from www.audioutilities.com) to convert files Wav files that I recorded on my ilo mp3 player from Wav to mp3.
When I do this I plug my mp3 player into the computer with the usb port and open up the Super Mp3 Wav Converter. I got to Wav to mp3, click add, open file ilo, open file voice, click the file I want to convert, then click convert.
A box pops up that says in converting the file, and there are two bars that say 0%. One of the bars fills up to 100%, and then when the first bar finishes another box pops up that says "Invalid pointer operation." And stops the conversion. It does this EVERY time.
What am I suppose to do? My only guess is save the voice files from the mp3 onto the computer, but I dont know how to do that, or where to save them if I even knew how! Please help!!
i don't know much about super mp3 wav converter, but it kinda sounds like kind of a hokey software, in the sense that it's almost too generic to work well.
try going to download.com and searching for "wav to mp3", and sort by "CNET rating". the ones with most stars are usually the best, but you can read the reviews and see what other people think of them. just make sure you get one that's completely free, because usually the one's that are only free trials only convert like 50% of them or something like that.
if you still can't find something good, there's another round-a-bout way to do it. but if you are dealing with voice recordings, this might be the better option for editing and mixing purposes. go to
http://myriadonline.com/cgi-bin/download.pl?lang=EN&prod=MA
and download myriad melody assistant. there are hardly any limitations on the trial version (apart from a notice at the beginning that you have to click "ok" on, and an extreme length limit that you almost never hit, that's about it i think). this is one of my favourite programs, i highly recommend it for sound, voice, and music editing.
once you've downloaded and installed it, either go to file>open>ilo mp3 player (as opposed to the default "my myriad documents" or "C:" or "my documents" etc.) and choose in the "files of type" drop-down menu "wave"; or you can go to file>import>"wave windows (*.wav)". click the file you want to open/import and then click "open".
you should see a window pop up that is titles ":: whateveryerfileiscalled.wav" and below it a blue area with green spikes (the audio). press "ctrl+a" to select all. click "open". you should now have a new myriad document with one track (a digital track). you can play around with cutting and pasting and editing and adding effects if you want (the help documentation and the website usually have pretty good extensive instructions).
to just save the file as an mp3, go to file>export>"Mpeg (*.mp3)". select whether you want it to be stereo or mono, select the sound quality (i.e., 96 kb/s, 122 kb/s, 256 kb/s, etc.), set the volume to 64 (that's the normal default, but i usually set it to somewhere between 80 and 100, especially when i'm dealing with vocal audio), make sure "normalize volume" is selected, and click "save". choose wherever you want to save the file, hit save, wait a few minutes (or seconds, depending on how long the file is), and boom, you're done!
sorry that was a little lengthy. hope this helped. good luck!

I was thinking of possibly going with side sweep bangs and having the rest of my hair cut into layers.
The problem is, every time I go to have layers done, I end up with something different (even though I ask for the same thing).
I was VERY happy with my first cut. It was sort of feathered and looked terrific even when left straight (my hair is very fine and it also made it appear very thick and full).
I want this back but I've been unable to find a photo of it to show to my stylist.
If you have any suggestions on layers (or bangs) PLEASE post pictures. I'm hoping I'll come across the first cut I had but if not, a few great suggestions will help as well.
Thanks!
well, several things need to be taken into consideration here. first, are you a boy or a girl (or does any-gender hairstyle work for ya)? second, do you have long, medium, or short hair? third, what's the shape of your face? i know it seems kind of silly, but your face shape actually affects what kind of hairstyles work with your face, especially if you're thinking of getting side sweep bangs.
medium layered:

short layered:

short textured side sweep bangs:

short emo side sweep bangs:

and even if you are a girl, this quiz might seem kinda dorky, but who knows? it may help!

Hey guys! Need your help. I have to keep rebooting my computer cuz it keeps hanging. I'm so tired of doing it every time it hangs! Is there anything else I can do?
tnx!:)
very wise the old one is. ^_^ we need more info on your computer! so feel free to email me the following information:
*your operating system (ex., xp, linux, mac, etc.)
*your web browser
*what you use you comp for (work, school, gaming, graphic design)
*what kind of programs you have
*when does it freeze up? (when you open ie, or in word, or in windows explorer, etc.)
*any pop-ups poppin'?
*any strange icons in the task bar?
you should try rebooting in safe mode. look and see in control panel> add/remove programs and see if there is anything unusual installed. you can send me a list of what's installed if you'd like.
(this is if you have windows) or you can try and do this before your comp freezes: start> run> type in "msconfig". select "diagnostic startup" and click ok, then restart. then only the basic and necessary programs and drivers will load so you can check for problems without other unneccesary programs running.
here's my basic checklist when i troubleshoot a computer (and no worries, this is actually what i do for my unpaid job at school ^_^).
1) open up the add/remove programs list
2) open up C:/program files
3) run the task manager (you can usually get to it through ONE ctrl+alt+del), [look in the 'processes' tab, not 'applications', and it makes it easier if you sort by name]
check through all of these things to see if anything unusual is there. if you're not sure about what some programs or processes are, google 'em, or you can go to http://www.processlibrary.com/ to look up some of the processes if you can't figure out what they are. after checking through all those things...
4) run disk cleanup (start> all programs> accessories> system tools> disk cleanup), but be careful here! make sure "C:" drive is selected, it'll take a minute or two, then STAY ON THE FIRST TAB ("Disk Cleanup"), [DO NOT go to the "Other Options" or "More Options" tab, just don't do it!], make sure all of the things have a check on them, then click ok, it'll ask you if you're sure, say ok, wait a few minutes and it'll be done.
5) run disk defrag (start> all programs> accessories> system tools> disk defragmenter). select volume"(C:)" and click "analyze" down below. once it analyses, click defragment (you usually need a certain amount of free space before you can do, you might have to delete some things or back them up on cd or usb flash drive, or delete some programs you don't really need, you can always reinstall them later). this will take longer than disk cleanup, so go do something else for a while.
again, i would need more information to help you completely. if you'd like, you can get me on AIM, YM, Gtalk, or Skype, and i can help you in realtime step-by-step.
hope this helped. good luck! email me for more help and ask for my SN.

Ever since the last Microsoft update to my windows XP I am unable to visit a lot of websites.
I try to click on a page and I get the little box that says click OK to run active X on this page.
I click OK and I get the send error report page and get thrown off the site I was trying for. I get no information from after sending the error report.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I figure it has something to do with the last update I just don't know which one, how to fix it or if its even safe to do so.
The sites are the ones that have cards with graphics on them if that helps.
Thanks!
are you using internet explorer? i myself am a hardcore mozilla firefox advocate, i think it's a lot better for most things (there are a few sites that haven't seen that the future is with the fiery fox so they still use scripts that can only run in ie).
which operating system do you have? if you're still on windows 98 (it's possible, believe me, one of my older computers still is ^_^) then it might be that your computer is just too old for the active x to run properly.
if you've got windows 200 or xp, try looking in the internet options (in the tools menu on the top bar) and checking the cookie options but mostly at the security options. there might be something amiss with the active x settings.
if you'd like any more help, just email me with all the basic information about your computer (like os and graphics card, you can find most of the important stuff by right-clicking 'my computer' and clicking 'properties') and also what web browser (and its version) you're using, and i'll be happy to help you out, step-by-step if i can (you can get me on AIM, YM, Gtalk, or skype if you want to).
hope this helped. good luck!

Hey, yeah, does anyone know a good web site anonymizer that I could use at school? Thanks.
This feels too short. Can I also have the link to that one webite with Snoop changes websites to say things with izzle at the end?
tsk, tsk, what are you doing at school? don't do anything you shouldn't be, now. ^_^ but i'm semi-serious here, only because i don't want to get you in trouble and i work with computers a lot and i see too many people get obsessed with the internet (it happened to me freshman and sophomore year). just make sure to give yourself wise freedom and to know your limits and how easily you're distracted.
that being said, here are some good proxies that i use.
http://proxy.org/cgi_proxies.shtml
http://nocensor.citizenlab.org/ (this one might not always be up)
http://www.adivinecomedy.com/cgi-bin/nph-proxy.cgi/000010A/http/www.web.freerk.com/c/
http://www.hidemyass.com/
a word of warning: sometimes schools will block proxies or filter-avoidant sites, in which case if they do at your school, then use the adivinecomedy one.
i can't help ya with the snoop-izzle thing...
hope this helped. keep yourself in check! ^_^
