Q: I am building a bridge out of toothpicks. Problem? The stupid glue won't dry! PLEASE help me! It's due tomorrow!

1) Don't use so much glue!
2) Take a hairdryer to it. I'm pretty sure that'll help.
3) Put it in the microwave. I'm not sure that'll help, but something interesting will happen I promise.

Q: Okay, this guy that I really liked named cody started going out with me two weeks ago. Then, 3 days ago, he cheated on me with this girl named Amber who is really nasty and got kicked out of school. Then I found out about it and got mad at me and broke up with me. Now I feel like its all my fault, plus now i like this other guy named chad but can't figure out if I should give cody another try or chad because both of them are equally as hott and nice. What should I do?

A guy cheats on you and you're wondering if he's the right one to go out with? What is wrong with people these days? Is there something in the water? Honestly, finding a woman with some self-respect around here is harder than finding penguins in the sahara desert.
JUST BECAUSE A GUY IS HOT, DOESN'T MEAN HE DESERVES TO BE WITH YOU.
Thanks, I'm done now.

Q: Im a freshman in high school and i really like a senoir. i think he might like me too because we are always flirting. me family says i cant go out with him because the age difference is too big. i think if they ever talked to him and saw how nice and sweet he is they would change their minds. I NEED ADVICE!!

Well, I'd invite him over and have them talk to them. Seriously, who's it going to hurt? Ask if he'd want to come hang out at your place, ask mom if you can bring a dinner guest friday night (offering to make dinner for the family is really convincing in these situations, by the way), and see what happens. Seniors really aren't that old, you could be inviting a 40 year old over or something, you know.

You should be friendly, but if he doesn't want to be friends then there's not much you can do about it. Just say hi and be your normal self and if he's cool he'll realize he could have a good friend if he'd just talk to you.

Find a set of stairs and stand on a step with just your toes on the step. Push yourself up and down until you can't move your calves. If you're good, hold some weights while you do this. Don't go down much past the edge of the step though or you could strain your achille's tendon.

If it's cool to you when you're shopping and energized, it's cool when you're wearing it around your friends at school. I think the issue is that you just don't feel cool in it. Be cool! Walk straight, strut your stuff, who cares what everyone else thinks of your outfit? You bought it, you love it, wear it like you got some!

Q: I have been in a long relationship that i no longer feel is working out, yet he still thinks that everything is perfect. I still care about him alot, but just as a friend. Is there a way that i can tell him that i just want to be friends without hurting his feilings too much?

No.
I'm serious. But you'd better tell him now before he gets deeper into it, otherwise you'll hurt him even more.

Q: Ok, I went out with this guy for a little over two months. We were really close and made-out all the time and he always wanted to go farther but I just wasn't ready. He wouldn't hang out with me on the weekends very much, instead he would go with the guys which I was alright with once-in-a-while. Everytime we would get drunk he would be all over me and I really like this guy, but he sometimes wouldn't call me when he said he was going to and I would end up waiting around for nothing. When he broke up with me, he said that he just didn't have time for a girlfriend right now but he still wants to be friends. I didn't want the relationship to end, but I went along with it and was just wondering if he broke up with me because I wouldn't go as far as he wanted me to go with him? But he still flirts with me and when he got drunk one night he went behind me and grabbed my ass, but I just ignored it. Is this guy just playing with me and what should I do?

Okay, since you left out ANY LOGICAL REASON FOR STAYING WITH THIS GUY, I'm going to have to ask that you never speak to him again. He's a scumbag! What are you thinking? Don't be friends, don't be his girlfriend, don't be anything... if you being your cool self isn't good enough for him he not only deserves to be alone, but a good strong slap in the face. sheesh.

Ah, addiction. I think it's okay when it's to me... quite nice, yes? Anyway, test it by staying away from spacefem.com for a day. Do you see things? Hear voices? Feel the urge to just sit in a corner rocking back and forth? Then yes, it's bad, get help. If you just feel the urge to paint your room blue and collect blob-shapped things, you're probably okay.

Well, you said you'd think about it, so you have every right to go back and tell him you decided no. But in the future, I wouldn't give people the "think about it" answer unless you're really comfortable with both alternatives. I'd have just said yes to the first guy if he was nice, the one who was late should have learned his lesson in my opinion.

Q: I notice that you have 73 answers to your credit.
The weird thing is that there have only been 68 questions listed in the categories!
To what do you credit your prodigious rate of answering questions?

Well, most of the questions were asked directly to me, so they don't fit into the site total. I've been answering questions for years, that's how I credit it. Not so much a rate as, um, a landslide.

Q: My friends and I sometimes make ourselves throw up like if we eat a really big meal and don't want to get fat from it. It's not bad, we're not anorexic or anything, and I know a ton of people who do it. But this one girl at our school found out and is like freaking out about it... how do we let her know it's okay?

Did you seriously just say that? No, making yourself throw up to lose weight is never okay. Just like driving drunk, and boyfriends who hit you, there are some things that you don't touch with a ten foot poll. It's NEVER okay, got it? You and your friends need to get help before you really hurt yourselves... you are starving your bodies, for one thing, which will only make it try to store more calories. Please get help right away.

Q: I am having a lot of troubles lately, and I need your help. I am mad at this guy cause he is a dumbass and doesn't realize that I like him, my best friend is saying really bad things behind my back to my other best friend, my mom's an alcoholic, my dad should divorce her but won't and I'm constantly depressed, angry, sad, and suicidal. What should I do?
Well, suicide is always the wrong choice, so I wouldn't do that. I think you need to re-analyze your friends. You've got a lot of crap going on in your life and you don't need drama royalty making it even worse. Talk to your friends and explain how you feel, then leave. Just walk off and do your own thing, learn to knit or program computers or chop down trees. It sounds like your at the age where friends can complicate things more than do good, and that's a crappy situation but if you put effort into it you can separate yourself and be the bigger person. It'll be okay. Just don't worry about what other people think.

Q: I find guys who put a lot of gel in their hair very cool. Especially when their hair is sticking up. Sometimes I have uncontrolable urges to touch complete strangers hair just because it's all hard and gelled up. What should I do?

Well, it's probably a good idea to ask someone before you run up and touch their hair. But if you remember to do that, I'd go for it, they might like it. Touch away, the world needs more contact, right?

Q: I broke up with this guy, and now his friend wants to date me. I like him and everything, I'm just afraid they won't be friends any more, there will be a big fight and it will all be my fault. What should I do?

Well, if you're really uncomfortable, you don't have to date anyone. But I'd give him a try. What do you have to lose? Some loser guys will act like 12 year olds and fight about it, even though you know which one you want. Let 'em fight, it's not your problem. Have fun and don't worry about what they think.

Q: Hi I'm going into the 4th grade and there is a guy that really like but he has know idea I like him should I tell him? I'm so scared that he wouldn't like me because I think he likes this other girl. And I know if I never tell him he will never know but he with this group "the popular kids" and well I'm not.

It's not as hard as you think, just cut back the message a bit. Tell him you think he's a great person, not that you're in love with him and you dream about him every night or something. Just catch his eye one day, smile, and say, "I think you're fantastically interesting. We should hang out more." and leave it at that. Be honest. Don't make a big deal out of it. He'll think you're much cooler because you'll come off as more mature than other girls your age, even the popular ones (hell, especially the popular ones, I always hated those posers)

Q: My best friend has been consumed by a totally worthless boyfriend. He's a jerk who demands all her time; she was so much cooler before he came along! How can I get her back?
I feel for you, I really do. I've been in this situation before. But there's not a lot you can do, if you kill him you'll get arrested, and if you yell and scream at her ("STOP BEING A MORON!") she'll just tunnel in and turn it into a you vs. him situation. Very bad. So I think the best way to get your feelings across would be to write her a long letter explaining exactly why you don't like her new man and telling her she could do better and you don't like how she's changed since he showed up. Letters are nice because she'll have to see everything you say and you have time to think about what you want to say so you won't say the wrong thing. If she still doesn't see things your way, you might have to call this one a loss and get a new best friend. Be there for her when the jerk leaves her in the dirt, but until then you don't need this stress in your life, you tried. She needs to find strength in herself. You can't give it, no matter how much you want to. If she's being physically abused or threatened, you can go to a school councellor or parent for help, otherwise, good luck.

I've been in the advice column over five years now so I think I've pretty much heard it all... the love, the hate, the random insanity. I don't take it too seriously, so I'm not always giving the best advice, but my column is fun to read!
I am a 23 year old electrical engineer, a feminist, a Christian. I don't know everything but I can sure pretend to.
Disclaimer: Now that I'm on advicenators I'm getting even more questions every day. It's fast and easy for me to answer them, yes, so at least I'm answering something now, but if your question contains the words "there's this guy that I like..." chances are I won't get around to it. I'm only answering interesting questions that I haven't answered before. Register at the site and ask everyone for advice if you must have an answer, because if people read my column and boring love advice was all they found, they'd never come back.
