I try to make myself go to sleep early and everything. But I just lay in my bed tossing & turning trying to make myself go to sleep. I have to wake up at 5 a.m in the morning and I always oversleep. When my alarm clock goes off I just turn it off and go back to bed. It takes like 30 minutes to an hour for me to go to sleep once I lay down. How can I make myself go to sleep early? (link)

I have this problem too sometimes. The easiest thing to do is to prepare yourself for bed. Avoid eating or drinking anything but water in the last 30 minutes before you go to sleep. Start relaxing around this time too. You can listen to calm music and start dimming your lights/turning on a lamp to get a more calm feeling in the room. Start winding your brain down by not using electronics. You can read, lay down in your bed, things like that which can get you calm. Then, when you are ready to sleep, lie down, turn off all lights, music, and distractions, and start to clear your mind. Try to get rid of all the stress and worries.
Next, I'm going to explain how to do something that I learned in class one day that puts people to sleep really fast. When you are laying down with your mind clear, start focusing on your feet. Don't move them and think about them starting to feel heavy. Next, move all the way up your body up to your head, thinking about feeling like there is something holding you down, but in a comfortable way. This should help you feel sleepy. Also, the next time you go see your doctor, tell them you're having falling asleep and they can tell you if you should use any of those sleep aid things. I hope this helps and good luck :)

The same thing happened to me. The easiest thing to do is wait until she gives you the talk. Keep in mind that even if you already know, she might want to tell you about it herself in a way different from the way it is depicted in most kids and teens nowadays. So when she decides to talk to you about it, just tell her that you kind of know about it, but you are willing to hear her out on whatever she says. This shows that you are being mature and shows that you have some respect for her. Also, your mom probably treats you like you're younger than you really are because she doesn't want you to grow up so fast. It's hard for parents to watch their children grow up, so just gradually remind sometimes that you are 13. I have really dry skin on my face. It's most noticeable on my nose. It's constantly flaking and it's really gross.
Usually I just use this blackhead face wash (I also have really black blackheads on my nose), rinse, then wash my face again with moisturizing face wash. It helps a little but my face is still dry and my nose still a bit flaky.
So can anybody suggest to me some good face LOTIONS that they know work? Nothing extremely expensive since I'm 17 and don't have the money to keep re-buying things that cost 30+ dollars.
Also can anybody suggest some good dandruff shampoos? I have really fine, thinish, pin straight hair if that matters at all. (link)

For your face, there are many good brands like Clearasil, Neutrogena, Olay, Mary Kay, and many others that you can get just about anywhere. You should look for ones meant for dry skin (I know Mary Kay has a large selection for dry skin). Try out several brands and stuff more specific to the problems you are having with your face to see what works best for you. If you still have problems after that, try going to see a dermatologist. They have things they can recommend or prescribe to help.
For your hair, some good dandruff shampoos are Head and Shoulders, Herbal Essences, and my personal favorite, Pert. For these, just look for the dandruff types. I've tried all three and they all seemed to help for me. I hope this helped and good luck :)

You need to know that when losing weight, fastest or easiest isn't always the healthiest. Don't starve yourself or become bulimic. You can destroy your body with that. Also, you shouldn't be worried too much about your weight. When I was 13, I weighed about the same-a little more than what you do now. Just make sure that you're eating healthy.
Some things that I did to try lose weight was eating healthier and including vitamins, fruits, and veggies in at least one meal per day. Avoid junk foods and eat fruits or a granola bar for a snack instead. *A little tip, it is better for your body to eat more meals with a smaller portion than it is to eat 1 huge meal per day, so keep this in mind.*
The other thing you need to do is exercise. Try to create an exercise plan where you do various exercises for all parts of the body, to balance it all. For example, you could do 15 minutes of cardio and then a few sets of abdominal workouts and push ups (you can research the specifics online). If you don't have time to exercise, there are plenty of easy mini exercises you could do while doing other things (it's very hard to describe these; if you want more information on them, just send me a message and I'll go more in depth). Exercise is important for your body for very many reasons (I won't go too in depth) and it is recommended that you exercise for about 30 minutes a day.

Got a question..I just got my braces off like a week ago and my teeth has shifted and i can really tell the differnce. The problem is i gotta wait on my retainor which will be a month away until my appointment. Did it take anybody that long and what am i suppose to do about my teeth shifting? I am not happy at all.. I am a gifted student in a gifted school and I am in 7th grade at a 9th grade level. I will have 6 credits before I get to 9th grade. Also, I used to be a straight A student. 3 of my current teachers do the same exact class routine everyday and it gets reallly boring and hard to not be sleepy andpay attention. I drink coffee in the morning usually and it doesn't help wake me up. 2 of these 3 teachers teach quite the opposite of the way I learn best. They both go very fast and don't give any visuals. Is there a way that I can adjust to this way of learning? I don't adjust now I will have to go to a school that I really don't want to go to and my grades right now are i beleive: 2 A's, 2 B's,1 C,1 D,1 E...Please give as much help as you can. Thank you. The first thing you should do is talk to your teachers. Explain to them that you are having trouble learning the way they teach. Hopefully they'll listen and try to help you out, maybe through tutoring that it taught in a different way. You could also ask some of your friends (maybe ones that are in a higher grade) that understand it for help. Keep in mind that this isn't always the best idea because they are more prone to mistakes or leaving out something that you need to know, but it also offers an alternative way to learning. If you still feel like you are having trouble after this, you should talk to your parents about the level of difficulty of the classes you are taking.
Also, it's not a good idea to depend of coffee to help you wake up (it should be fine in moderation though). When you wake up in the morning, you should eat breakfast and drink water or milk. Try to wake your body up in a more natural way. You could do a few simple exercises and just breathe deeply. These things will help you wake up and be refreshed in the mornings. Being awake in your morning classes might help with learning.
As for adjusting to different ways of learning, most people can, just up to a certain point. The most important thing is to have motivation. You need it to anything that takes work, school included. I understand how hard it is sometimes because I'm also a couple years ahead in school for most people my age. In a way, you do have to work harder than others, so you have to try your best to pay attention. When you get home, you could also teach yourself the information by using reliable online sources and going at your own pace. I really hope this helps you and good luck with everything :)

The problem most places have with hiring people at your age has to do with transportation and child labor laws. Just want to point that out because that will prevent you from being able to do some jobs. I'm going to give you the link about Virginia's child labor laws so you can get a better understanding of them. Also, you will need a worker's permit.

Anyways, as for actual jobs, some restaurants might hire you as a server. I know Chick fil a, Burger King, and McDonald's can hire 14 year olds. If there is a specific place you want to work at, be sure to ask or check out a website to find out at what age they hire. Another thing you can do is odd jobs around the neighborhood like babysitting, dog walking, and mowing lawns. Don't get discouraged if you can't immediately find a job. Hi everybody,
I have decided to start eating healthier and also it would be nice to lose some weight, so I bought myself a smoothie maker.
I thought it would be the best breakfast option to make smoothies, as I they fill me nicely but are v. healthy. Alongside, for both lunch and dinner (although as a university student I generally go for a lunch-dinner anyway) I would make salads with various things, mostly with minimal dressing/sauces.
Would this enable some weight loss along side walking at least 40 minutes a day, if not more? :) I am honestly too busy for proper work outs currently, but later I would like to work in a regular pattern of at-home exercises.

It's great that you are trying to be healthier :)
Smoothies and salads are definitely healthy alternatives to most food choices. The only thing I suggest is to give more variety instead of having those 6 out of the 7 days of the week. http://www.eatingwell.com/ has many good recipes for healthy choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that are pretty easy to make.
As for exercise, 40 minutes of walking a day will help. I do suggest adding some variety to that as well if you can. Here is a website that has some workouts that you can do at home and don't take very long.

I twisted my ankle really bad back in August. My doctor said I could have issues for up to a year depending on what sort of activities I did, and so far I've pretty much always had issues! It's still noticeably bigger than the other one. Its for the most part just a little stiff but not painful anymore. Except when I wear heels! It hurts so much! I'm going to a wedding in about two and a half weeks and I'm going to have to wear heels and also be moving around in them so I was wondering if there are any good stretches I can do to make wearing heels hurt less. I know most of you probably aren't doctors so I'm not about to sue if your advice doesn't work or anything but I'm sure some people on here have twisted an ankle! (link)

I'm not a doctor, but I've had ankle problems in the past. The best thing to do is to buy a supportive wrap for your ankle if you don't already have one to wear often until the wedding. Also, I'm including a website below which has some exercises to help strengthen your ankles. I did most of these when I have to go through physical therapy and they are pretty helpful.
Take it easy up until the wedding. Try to wear your most supportive shoes up until then. Also, is there any way you don't have to wear heels? Some good substitutions if you aren't in the wedding party are flats, fancy sandals, and toms that match your dress.

I had a similar feeling when I was your age. I was really depressed and considered suicide. Now that I have grown up more since then, I'm glad I didn't. Life gets better. Deep inside, you know that. It's the reason why you're asking for help. It's that little voice that gives you a reality check that keeps you from doing it because it's "too much". And it is, especially for somebody at your age. Try to find the things that make you happy. Challenge yourself to try something new like a sport or music. It's your choice. If you prefer wearing regular panties, then that's perfectly fine. Some people do find thongs to be uncomfortable, but it just comes down to preference. He could either like you or he could just be one of those jerks that screws around with girls. The reason I say that is because there are tons of teenage boys just waiting to take advantage of girls. The same thing happened to me when I was your age. The guy ended being a player who didn't give a crap about anybody's feelings. Sometimes it is hard to tell if a guy's feeling are genuine. So take it slow. It's not good to act super obsessed because it might scare him off. Don't let this guy in close enough until you're sure that he actually cares for you. You really should talk to her about it first. Nicely ask her to stop and if she doesn't, you should have your parents step in to help. Don't get mad or angry because all that would do is show her that it's okay to do that. Whether you realize it or not, younger siblings look up to their older brothers and sisters for guidance. Give her a good example by being the better person. Another good thing to do is to ignore her. It's obvious that your sister is seeking attention. Don't give it to her. I am a 19 year old girl and am a freshman in college. Throughout my teenage years I have become more and more insecure about myself, less motivated because of my lack of being able to focus, and pretty much just feel my future is hopeless. I know that deep down I could do something great with my future, but I cannot seem to actually to sit down and do my work. I know that this is no excuse as to why I shouldnt be able to achieve my goals in life, but I honestly really feel that i cant..it is very difficult for me to understand things which is why I guess I hold everything off until the last minute/dont do it. I am a huge procrastinator and sometimes psychically feel incapable of completing a task that I feel i cannot do, even though if i tried i maybe could. I am so sick of it. It makes me feel like an idiot. i dont know whats wrong with me why cant i just fucking sit down and do my work. My boyfriend does not make the situation any better..he just told me that me doing bad in school aggrivates him and is a turn off, but I dont think he understands how difficult it is for me. He is very smart and has no patience for me and when I am upset about something that is deeply stressing me out, he gets angry at me and tells me I need to deal with it because everyone has to deal with it and that he is not going to "baby me." where as I feel for him to make the situation better, he should be comforting me. I am at the point where I feel I suck at life and that I am a useless failure. The only things i am good at are playing guitar and doing art/writing. i struggle with my school work and feel im not smart enough to do certain things. My close friends and family tell me I am gifted and smart but my boyfriend and others who dont know me think im stupid because it is hard for me to comprehend things easily. it makes me feel very bad about myself and I cry about it everyday. i know I sound like a whiny baby but sometimes I feel the only way to feel better is to express myself to others and reach out for advice. I have problems with my self esteem too. But what helps me is to say one nice thing about yourself everyday and see how many you can come up with. Don't be hard on yourself. Nobody is perfect! Everybody, including you, has something beautiful that's a part of them.
As for your boyfriend, I think you need to stand up to him. Tell him that he needs to treat you better. NO GUY SHOULD EVER TREAT YOU BADLY NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LOVE HIM. Don't you ever forget that.
And for motivation and school work, don't try to do things all at once. First have the self control to make yourself start on whatever you have to do and take periodic breaks to refresh. This will also help with the quality of your work. Think about it this way, say you have a project due in a week. What most people would do is wait until the night before and throw something together a few hours and get something that looks okay because of the feelings that you don't want to do it and your tired and stuff like that. But, if you take a little time to work on it everyday and really put effort for say the 30 minutes each day that you spend on it, then you get to see progress and you won't be in a rush therefore making you quality of the project better. You'll be proud of something that you turn in. I totally understand about procrastination, but it really comes down to how much self control you have to make sure that you don't wait until the last minute. Tell yourself that you can do it.
If your good at the guitar and art/writing and you enjoy it, maybe you could try doing more activities that involve those things. Like you could find sheet music for your favorite song and learn it on the guitar. I'm a musician and that's one thing that always makes feel better. Or you could try letting other people read some of the things that you write. There are several websites, one in specific that you can use for a little while is teenink.com and there you can post any genre of your writing and other people read it and comment/rate it. There are also online writing contests that you can enter for free. Just try it, even if you don't win, it can give you a feeling of accomplishment for being able to do it in the first place.
Don't tell yourself that you aren't smart. Everybody is smart in some kind of way, some people just struggle with it, but if you're able to overcome that it just goes to prove how smart you really are. You are not a useless failure because you care enough to reach out and try to get help so you can do better in life. There's your motivation. Prove those people you think that you aren't smart wrong. And don't forget to reward yourself for your achievements. It always help with the motivation :)

I'm really sorry that you have to go through that. Just ignore what he says and prove him wrong. Don't give him any reason to doubt that you're doing the best you can. In the end of the day, you should just be proud of doing the best you can and maybe one day he'll realize how much of a jerk he is being.
