So I've had a major crush on this guy since September. When we got put into groups selected by my teacher for an English project, I felt like this would be a good chance to become friends. Well, I usually don't ask for anything expensive during the holidays but this year since I'm 17, there's a lot that I feel like I would need. My mom is planning on getting me a car soon (not for christmas but within the next couple of months). So that's kind of a christmas present from her I guess. My parents are divorced and I was planning on asking my dad for a Sidekick 3 phone (along with some CDs), but I don't know if that's asking for too much since I'm getting a car soon. I don't want to be a little spoiled brat. What do you think? Just wait for the phone or ask for both...car from mom and phone from my dad? I know my birthday is an option but that's not until september.

I have to re-boot my computer because of a virus. I have around 250 songs on my iTunes and once I re-boot my computer, they will be gone.

I'm pretty sure that I have both of these two things stated in the title. I'm friendly with people I know, but totally ignore any other people I don't. Sometimes people think I'm very arrogant because I don't talk to anyone. I act so confident when I don't talk, because I'm trying to hide my extreme social shyness. This has really prevented me from doing things I want to do, and I avoid most social situations with a guy I like. I wish I could talk or even smile around my crush! You could say I'm painfully shy, I feel like I'm under attack and it's the most uncomfortable thing.
I've heard of a few self help books to help cure this, such as 'Painfully Shy' and 'Dying of Embarrassment'. If anyone has gone through this, what books do you recommend I read to help me?
P.S. I'm not looking for any advice right now such as 'be happier, think positive, and smile', because such things haven't working in the past.
