Advicenators discussion: Hey! S_C wrote Monday October 20 2008, 2:46 pm: Your forum was looking a little lonely, so I thought I'd drop by to say hey, so HEY!
:) Alin75 wrote Monday October 20 2008, 8:26 pm: Hey!
Yeah my forum is not exactly a hub of activity. Hard to imagine with my magnetic personality and all that :D S_C wrote Tuesday October 21 2008, 12:55 pm: We should have Mike start a "no ugly people" topic.
Everyone would want to start talking to boost that self esteem :). Alin75 wrote Tuesday October 21 2008, 1:40 pm: Haha, yeah... I for one made sure to post in it first chance I got :D
S_C wrote Tuesday October 21 2008, 8:43 pm: Oh of course. What could be more fun than that? Alin75 wrote Wednesday October 22 2008, 4:49 pm: Hey I was wondering, how did you go about getting your poetry published (or nearly published)?
You said you needed 50 (heck of a lot btw)... but are you guaranteed that they will publish them, or will an editor or what not evaluate them first?
Also, in regards to the book, do you know where they are publishing it (geographically) and how easily it will be available?
Sorry for all these questions, but I have been looking online at how the whole system works and it is a bit confusing at times. Kind of curious to get the details on how you experienced it... S_C wrote Wednesday October 22 2008, 10:43 pm: They're still in the process of evaluating the book, and if/when I get the 50 poems together, they'll evaluate them, too.
The last e-mail I received was based mostly on the book I'm working on getting published, and my mom had asked if they take poetry:
"The only thing I have received back is concern on what kind of photos and or illustrations we could use in the book. Typically with children's books the cost lustrations are the responsibility of the author. Everyone feels that the book itself is sweet, sad, touching. So that is where we are. I should receive a full report soon." They also said (about the poetry) "Yes, we do publish poems. We ask that they submit at least 50 poems to make it a substantial book. We would love to have the opportunity to review her poems!"
I don't really want to get my hopes up since this is the most recent news that I've heard, and it was e-mailed to my mom on October 8th...
If they end up publishing it, I live in North Carolina in the United States, so I suppose that's where it would be published. Not sure on availability. I know that if I had any say in distribution (at least with the book), I'd want to send it to hospitals or clinics that deal specifically with the disease my book focuses on. Anywhere else would be up for grabs. If you've ever read _Tuesday's With Morrie_ by Mitch Albom (true story), the book is based on a child's perception of the disease that Morrie has.
I'm here at college, and one day my mom called me up and told me that she had found and met a publisher. I was never planning on even trying to get it published.
If it doesn't work out with this publisher, I'm going to go ahead and do it myself (bind it and everything) and then donate copies to Muscular Dystrophy and ALS clinics around the state. I don't care if I make money off of any of it.
No problem about any of the questions. I don't know as much about what's going on as I probably made it seem. :) Alin75 wrote Thursday October 23 2008, 12:29 pm: Ok cool,
Its interesting that you are dealing directly with the publisher most often, when I was reading online, they said getting an agent was necessary. Its good to see that it is not absolutely mandatory.
In any case, good luck with both of them, and thanks for answering :)
S_C wrote Thursday October 23 2008, 1:21 pm:
I'm sure getting an agent could help in the long run, especially for someone with my aspirations who wants to publish more than just one piece, but it definitely isn't necessary.
& again, no problem; I didn't mind answering :) Mackenzie wrote Thursday October 23 2008, 5:32 pm: "Yeah my forum is not exactly a hub of activity. Hard to imagine with my magnetic personality and all that :D"
