I need 1000 dollars, in 4 weeks.

Question Posted Tuesday September 20 2016, 2:16 pm

Now long story short, I'm a 17 year old who managed to graduate early and is now paying my way through college myself. My parents helped me some, but everything else I pay for myself.

This is not the problem, the problem is that recently my best friend of my entire life lost everything. She had to move out of her parents house(and she moved in with me), her car is broken and has AWFUL gas mileage, her boyfriend dumped her for no reason, and to top it all off her job recently dropped all her clients but one so she has barely any income. Last night she was understandably very upset and while driving got a ticket. A 450$ ticket, and one she can't afford to pay.
I of course said I'd help her out and take care of it considering the circumstances, but now with that, and what's left of my college fees(590$), both need to be payed in full by Oct. 19th.(funny timing huh?) But anyway, she makes barely anything now, and I make 180$ a week at my part time job. I'd gladly work more or get another job, but with being a full time student as well I don't have time and the fact that I'm still a minor I really can't. I don't know what to do, I could pay for lot of it in time but there is still a few hundred I need and then both our expenses during this time on top of that, are there any ideas you could give to help us get money fast? Please keep in mind we live in a tiny town, and if you suggest ebay, what are some things we could sell on there?

Thank you all so much for reading

Lets see, there is a lot going on for you!

First, it is nice of you to help a friend. Do your best to help some but this debt is hers. She needs to grow up and deal with this herself. Be supportive but let her take responsibility for her own. You have enough to deal with.

You don't say why she had to move out of her parents house. Thats where she could turn for help paying her bill. Is she 18? If not her parents may have to pay it anyway. If she is 18, her best bet is going to be to go in on the court date & explain the situation & ask for a new court date. That will give her time to maybe earn the money herself.

If her car is broken & a gas guzzler, she may want to save for a new car, or sell the one she has & get a car she can afford to drive. Go for an older car if possible. The taxes & insurance on it will be more affordable if she gets an older car.

She needs to talk to her parents & fix whats wrong. Friends are great, but some of them can be hard to live with in the long run. If you want her as a room mate, don't start now with helping to much. I know, I know you want to, but trust me she needs to learn responsibility.

Boy friends are very replaceable. I understand the pain & heartache she feels but encourage her to get back out there & date other guys. Don't dwell on the bad guy, find a good one.

She needs to find another job. I like to recommend going online & seeing what your local hospital has to offer. Check in clerks & admissions clerks are great jobs & pay well & most have retirement plans.

I wish you luck. You are a good friend. :)
