Hey! So, I go to a Catholic school and we have hour and fifteen minute long masses and I'm a freshman so my class sits way in the balcony and I almost passed out last time. I was shaking and had a cold sweat. Is there a way to prevent overheating in the balcony? I think that's what happened. I'm definitely going to wear a short sleeve shirt for mass and bring mints, but any other tips? Thanks!
I used to have to attend masses too at my high school and yes, sometimes they do go on for a while!
At first when I read your question I thought that you fainted because of a panic attack or something-so was ready to advise you on that.
However-it seems overheating is the primary cause.
So personally I faint at the sight of blood-so I'll just let you know how I cope with that and then you can hopefully transfer what I do to your situation :)
1) Bring some ice cool water. If there's a shop on campus by a refrigerated bottle of water. If not, pop a bottle in the fridge at home the day before and on the morning of the mass, bring it with you in a cool bag. Even if you feel well, make a point of sipping it during the mass. This is because the reason we faint is there's less oxygen to the brain. Drinking plenty of water will help maintain healthy oxygen levels throughout the body because it contains vital minerals like zinc. The coolness will obviously help as well.
2) Practice your breathing. Breathe in slightly, but take a your time breathing out. Its the breathing out that helps to calm you down. This is important-because when you go into this mass my guess is that you'll already be abit nervous about fainting. Learning how to control your breathing is a key skill, as it control the amount of oxygen in your brain and will stop you from fainting.
3) Let a friend know about your worries. That way there's always someone to keep an eye on you. Tell her if she suspects you are going to faint, to place your head between your legs bending over [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
4) Sit on the edge if you can. Should be cooler though if you're about to faint STAY WHERE YOU ARE as they'll be more people to help you. Don't run off as you'll fall from a standing position, making things worse. Like I said sit with a friend [ kittenlover2000's advice column | Ask kittenlover2000 A Question ]
