Plumbers are considered a skilled trade. As such they can and most do make an excellent living. How much they make depends on where they live and the type of work they do and who they work for. Union plumbers make the most money and they supply all the training an apprentice will ever need. While an apprentice you work with and under the supervision of a Master Plumber while going to school in the evening. Many of the course you take in the apprentice program are college level course and earn college credit.
If you do not wish to join a union there are a number of ways to get the training you need to get the state license you need to work as a plumber. You can enroll in a technical training school. You can also find a job as an apprentice with a non union contractor and attend an industry sponsored training school. Here again while an apprentice you work with and under the supervision of a Master Plumber while going to school in the evening.
Being a plumber is not just a job, it is a profession as a plumber is a professional doing professional work for a professionals salary or earnings. ]
