When you get braces put on your teeth will be sore, It is best to avoid anything cold or hot as your teeth will be sensitive for a few days.

Do not chew anything that may be sticky.

No gum

If your brackets fall off then you just make an appointment with the orthodontist to have them replaced. How long you will have your braces depends on how long it is necessary. This is something that your orthodontist will be able to answer.

Don't be scared!
I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I've gone through braces, I've had them off for over a year now! But here is the answers to your questions :)
1. No color would be best! You have an appointment every couple weeks and you can choose your color and change it every few weeks! Like around sports season I would do my school colors, green and red during christmas time, green for st patricks, and fun colors in between holidays! It's nice!
2. The trick is right before you leave to get your braces on, take motrin or whatever you take for soreness. And after appointments if they tighten our braces like they did for me also take it during that time. It relieves the soreness a lot. The best thing you can do is take it before you get them on.
3. Different orthos tell you different things you can eat. Mine told me not to have gum, popcorn, bite into apples or hard foods, chewy candy, etc!
3. This differs for everyone and how bad your teeth and or bite is. I had mine on for 2 1/2 years, my cousin had hers on for 3. Some 1 1/2-2. You always add like half a year or a few months from when they say you'll get them off. They want you to get excited but they really keep them on also to make sure your teeth won't move after you get them off. Listening to their rules, like what to eat, plays a big part in when you get them off.
5. Just call in and they will schedule you as soon as possible to fix it! My bracket never fell off but i know people whos did from biting in an apple and eating really awfully chewy stuff. They may "yell" at you but it happens.
But don't be scared you finally get straight pretty teeth! Unfortunately i have this tooth that moved because i lost my day retainer. But good luck it will be all good!
