As long as you have access to the Internet, which apparently you do, it is possible to send a text message to a cell phone from email. In fact, I used to do it quite often before I had a texting plan on for my own cell phone.

It doesn't matter what type of email you use, whether it's a free one like Gmail or Yahoo! or something like Microsoft Outlook.

All you have to do is find out the proper address to send your message and you're all set.

For example, while if you where just texting from a phone you'd only have to enter the phone number, you have to ad a little more to send a message from an email address. Exactly hat you have to add depends on the cell phone provider of the number of your intended recipient.

Let's take four of the major cell phone companies for example and pretend the number you want to send a message to is (111)222-3344.

The last time I checked, each service required the following formula:

Sprint - phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
So you'd use - 1112223344@messaging.sprintpcs.com

Verizon - phonenumber@vtext.com
So you'd use - 1112223344@vtext.com

T-Mobile - phonenumber@tmomail.net
So you'd use - 1112223344@tmomail.net

AT&T - phonenumber@txt.att.net
So you'd use - 1112223344@txt.att.net

In the event that these might change over time, you can find them with a simple Google search.

Hope this helps.

Do you have a yahoo email account? You can use the SMS messaging option which will go to a cell phone like a text and on your computer it will look like an IM.
