To some extent, you are stuck with the hair you were born with, be it fine hair or bigger thicker strands. But you can work on getting healthier hair which will grow faster and longer without a lot of breakage and split ends.
Look up Natural hair care on line. There is much helpful info there.
I had to learn some of what I know for hair care from my long haired 2nd husband. Men with long hair seem to have healthier looking hair than women often. Why? They do buy into all that advertised crap for hair. Most men don't straighten hair, perm it, color it, blow dry it or use curling irons AND they don't wash it daily.
The chemicals roughen up your hair and dry it so its unhealthy and brittle and no longer smooth and silky.
Washing too often will strip your hair of more than dirt, it will rob your hair of naturally occuring oils that your hair needs. These oils are distributed throughout your hair down to the ends by brushing more often. It takes many days for your natural hairs oils to come back which is healthy for your hair. Simply rinsing your hair with water is enough for in between so wash your hair once every 4 days or more. I have gone 5-6 days without washing and have no problem with the hair.
You don't need to buy products that advertise protein for the hair, when protein if its in there is so little it doesn't have any effect on the hair.
If its protein you want, saturate your hair in beer and let it sit like that for a while. Summer is perfect. Get your hair wet with beer and go out to enjoy the sun. It will dry like that and have plenty time to be on your hair for it to soak up the protein you need. Wash it out in a shower later..no shampoo...remember? You can also use a raw egg, scramble it well and apply to your hair. Wear a towel around shoulders for any drips. Let it sit for 15, 20 minutes at least, longer if you're okay with it. Then shower to rinse it out.
Do you need a moisturizer treatment, try mayonaisse, thats right. Massage it in throughout the hair, it will smell funky as it heats up from your scalp but your hair will love it. Then wash it out and use a minimum of shampoo to break the
hold of any excess oils that didn't seep into the hair strands. Thats a little of what I know and you can find more on line. Oh and giving yourself a scalp massage often encourages blood to the roots which also help with healthier growth.
Never brush your hair when it is wet because it forces the hair to be stretched beyond it's elasticity level so it snaps or will eventually do so due to be stress by the stretching. [ Dragonflymagic's advice column | Ask Dragonflymagic A Question ]
