Music lessons

Question Posted Saturday July 13 2013, 3:47 pm

In sixth grade over the summer I took saxophone lessons with my current music teacher. I never ended up playing in school because I didn't know much at all. I wanted to keep practicing at home with the borrowed school saxophone, but my teacher wouldn't allow me to practice at home with it. My dad said it would be good if I tried again, but I'm too scared because my music teacher is harsh and might yell at me because I didn't practice the last time he taught me. My family doesn't have much money either so we can't afford an effective teacher. I hate being in a room alone with someone I barely know so no private lessons and my teacher was never that open to me. I would want my mother to come to my lessons and not my dad because my father's side is full of very successful musicians and I feel under pressure with him there, but he said he would want to go and would go no matter what I said. I'm really frustrated so please help!

I can totally relate on having a harsh music teacher. You could go to one of your friends who plays music (If you have one) and ask them for help. I've been playing for about 6 years now, and I'm able to help students with instruments even I don't play! (i.e I play flute and French Horn, but I have helped a person with trumpet and another with Euphonium) SO I would ask a friend who is really skilled/into music. You could always grab a book and teach yourself too. Hope this helped! From one musician to another! :)
