If you're not good at handmade stuff you could try to search for some shops that doesn't sell too expensive things/clothes. And get him something that would look good on him.

Last year I made my boyfriend a gift basket. Just put little things together that you think he'd like. I put some candy in it and I also went down an aisle in a store where they sold the mini shampoos and cologne for men and added those too. You could also add a gift card to it.
I also made heart shaped brownies and cake pops.
So you could make him brownies, cookies or even cupcakes. Boys love food so he would appreciate it.
If he likes sports you could get him something sports related.
If you can cook, or you can have your parents help you, you can cook him dinner.
You can get a picture of the two of you and buy a picture frame.
If you guys write notes to each other, you can look through them and take some quotes out and make it into a colorful collage.
You could also make a scrapbook and put all the memorable things of you guys in it.
If you don't like scrapbooking, you can make a slideshow of pictures of both of you with a song you both like.
I'd also make a homemade card for him. Just look some up and you'll find some really cute ones.
