A good guess is he thinks he will look better and gain some status with his friends. I don't know what the stats are today but in my times when guys claimed to their friends to have had sex, that put the pressure on with all the guys thinking they were behind the times so they either tried to have sex with a girl but if no girl would do it with him, then he went back and told his friends the same lie the other guy did, that he had sex with his latest girlfriend because all the guys think it makes they seem more cool.
Guys don't communicate with each other like girls do. If a girl wants sex and her boyfried wont she'll ask her friends what can I do to get him to have sex but you wont hear her bragging about having had sex with him cus that doesnt solve her problem. Guys like to outright lie, or hint at something to get others to believe what they want to believe.
Hopefully he's young like 12 or so and will out grow that.
If your boyfriend is 19, 20....there's something seriously wrong. Not only does he have a lying problem but theres a chance he is perhaps gay and cant admit it to himself or he has a medical problem and has no sex drive and should see a doctor or a mutation from what is the norm.
