Neutropenic Sepsis Essay

Question Posted Thursday March 14 2013, 9:32 am

Hello,
Im A nursing student at university.
currently Im doing an essay on Neutropenic sepsis,
which is when chemotherapy causes a lowered neutrophil count and infection is more likely as the body is less able to combat it.

Am i right in thinking that one would have to recognise what infection cause the Neutropenic sepsis, and that would have to be addressed aswell and giving a broad specturm antibiotic?
or would the broad spectrum antibiotic combat it also.

While I understand you question. I am not a doctor and I cannot answer the question. I think you have the answer but like you I am questionable of my thinking.

I suggest you talk with your instructor or discuss this with a Hematologist/Oncologist for the right answer. There should be one willing to discuss this with you at the hospital you are doing your clinical's at.
