Is this my period or Implantation?

Question Posted Monday February 25 2013, 5:03 pm

Hi. So my husband and I are trying for a baby. He has cum in me multiple times since my last period which started on Jan.23rd. The last time he ejactulated inside me was on Feb. 17th. For a few days before that I started having strong breast tenderness mostly in my left breast along with LEFT lower abdomen pain and pressure. By pressure I mean it feels as if something inside me is trying to push it was out. The pain lasts for about 20 seconds and goes away it comes off and on all day and night. I also have cramping on the left side. On the 21st I went to the doctor he did an HCG blood test but it showed negative when I got the results the next day. Anyways the late afternoon of the 21st I started to get a brown discharge when I wiped. It then progressed slowly to some blood as well. I thought it might be my period coming a couple days early as I had the cramping as well. But My period is usually VERY heavy Red blood with clots and lasts seven days. This was very light and very little red blood was mostly light red and brown blood. It went away yesterday until last night and a little bit continued to today but there isnt alot at all so this would be four days. I still have pains only on my left side. I do have cramping though in all my pelvic area. Now when I went to the doctor he said there is no chance I am pregnant according to the test. But the HCG test was done before my period was actually due and if I just started Implantation would it show up??? Im not sure what to think. Oh I also have had a sharp pain in my left shoulder and arm as well the whole time. Please any advice.....Thanks!!!

Additional info, added Wednesday February 27 2013, 9:44 am:
I forgot to mention I also have swelling to the left of my navel on my left side....maybe a bit lower.

This has not been like my normal period at all like I said I am usually very heavy and red with clots but this has been a light red/pink color and light brown and very light. Today is day 6 and I am throwing up and have the bad pains in my lower left abdomen still. I love coffee and it tastes terrible to me today. Also have a pounding headache.....just want to know whats going on the pain in my abdomen is so bad I keel over.....never had pain like this.

Wed. Feb 27th- Went to the doctor yesterday afternoon and the pains were pretty bad still. He refused to do an xray or untrasound and said I have the flu!! I have nver had these pains or swelling of one side of my abdomen with the flu! And when he pushed on the swollen area I literly screamed!! No answers yet tired of the pain! The bad thing is I cant find a family doctor here well a decent one!

While it is possible you are pregnant you could have an ectopic pregnancy. This might fool the blood test for a while. You might suggest to your OB/GYN to do an Ultra sound.

What bothers me more though are some of your other symptoms as they are not consistent with a pregnancy. The pain in your left shoulder and arm and the headache top the list of my concern. Followed by the sharp pains in your left shoulder and arm plus the vomiting.

While both the Gall Bladder and the Appendix are located on the right side of the body it is possible for the pain to be felt on the left side especially if you are diabetic. Diabetics feel pain differently then others. some of the symptoms you describe could be consistent with problems with either one of these organs and you should ask your doctor about it.

While I am not a doctor these symptoms do concern me and I suggest you check in with your family doctor to have these symptoms checked out. Nothing says these pains and other symptoms are nothing more than symptoms of a pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy all of which need to be check out by both your OB/GYN and family doctor.

Since you are trying to get pregnant it is important that you have the best possible medical care and have plans that are not consistent with a normal pregnancy checked out.

The brown blood is normal, especially for a period. It's old blood from your last period leaving your uterus. As for the cramping, breast tenderness, and bloating, that's natural as well for periods. The blood clots are normal too, as it is mostly the old uterine lining being expelled from your body. Here is something to think about - Did you use to take birth control of any type? Some birth controls, after ending them, may take up to a year to fully leave your system and due to that, it takes your body time to re-regulate itself. Making getting pregnant difficult.
Previously I have also read, that most couples trying to conceive typically fail, regardless of health, and whether or not there was or was not birth control involved. All you can do is keep trying, and don't despair if it takes a long time. For my mate and I, it took us 2 years before we were able to finally have a child *though I'm still pregnant, we are due in april* As with my first pregnancy, we lost it. This one is holding strong. All you can do is keep trying, and hope for the best. It may not happen right away, but in time it will, so keep at it, and don't give up, especially if you really are ready and do want this child. Here are some calendars that may help you estimate ovulation times *it's not 100% accurate, but it can give you a rough idea, and remember, sperm lives inside of a woman's body for up to 1 week*
