I'm scared of tampons

Question Posted Friday February 15 2013, 9:13 pm

Okaye, I'm 13 years old. I've had my period for a few years now, and I put a tampon in for the first time last night. I could feel it in me. It kind of freaked me out. I would sit down and like, I knew it was there. I didn't like it. I went to bed with it on, and wore the same one until about 2 pm, I tried taking it out, but I was in tears the whole time. The second time I tried taking it out, about 2:30, it didn't hurt, as bad as it did the first time, but I still wanted to scream. It is now 8:15 and I haven't put one in, I'm scared I'm going to feel it, I hate it! I've googled so many things! So many questions! But i dont know if I want to stick with them. I don't like to be able to feel it inside me, I don't like that, and I don't want to cry when I take it out. /: help?

Thanks for inboxing!

First of all, you shouldn't sleep with a tampon in. They should not be left in longer than 8 hours, otherwise you risk getting Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Second of all, the first few times you use a tampon, you're going to feel it. It shouldn't be so painful that you can't bear it, but it you will know it's there. When you're putting it in, the biggest thing is to RELAX. When you're stressed, your muscles tense and make it harder and more painful to put it in.

It gets better with time. If you don't like using them, stick to using pads. There's nothing wrong with that! Just do what makes you most comfortable :)
