I have a crush on my neighbor

Question Posted Tuesday November 20 2012, 7:54 pm

I am an 18 year old female living at a small college. Since the college is so small, the dorms are as well because there's not that many people to house. My dorm is the only coed building by door, all the others are by wing or by floor. Anyway, my neighbor is the cutest thing. He's shy and plays guitar. He doesn't talk to many people, he talks to his neighbors on the other side of him because his roommate is "bed fellows" with one of the neighbors. The other day, my roommate was going to rinse out her mug and wasn't paying attention so she ran into the cute boy and she just said out of shock "oh my goodness, I thought I was gonna die" because they hit so hard and he looked at her and said "don't worry, I won't kill you" smirked and walked away. So, I've seen him talk to more people in our wing, yet he hasn't spoken one word to me. Every time I'm in the hallway outside of my door and he is, too, he'll look at me for a second and then get an uncanny admiration for the tile floor when he walks by me. I don't know why he's like this with me, my roommate said he can look at her for long periods of time if they are passing in the hall or anything like that. Do you think he is bashful around me because he has a crush on me, too? Or do I scare him for some reason? I ask because lately, I have been thinking of ways to get him to not think I'm a bitch or anything and that he can actually talk to me. My roommate knows that I like him and she thinks that he likes me, too. So, the other night, she went to our community advisor's room and started talking to or community advisor about me and the cute neighbor and my CA said "well, maybe we'll just have to get them together!" So, now I'm thinking of things that I can do before they hatch out a plan together. I was thinking of writing my number on a post it note and sticking it to his door or something after he leaves for class. But then our other neighbors would see it and I'm not sure I want all of my neighbors to have my number. My CA said to slip my number under the door but I feel like that's a little aggressive. I just want us to be talking/friends/getting to be more than friends before Christmas break which starts on December 15th. Anyway, I just want him to know that he can talk to me so I want to do something cute like that because obviously he cannot talk face to face with me yet. But I don't want to stick my number on his door unless I know or have a strong feeling that he likes me too. Do you think he does? And what do you think I should do? Thanks!!

I say just talk to him. If he's shy, and "avoids" you when you see each other, chances are he's too shy to make any type of move. So you're the one who may need to take the chance. Just politely introduce yourself, and start off from there. I was the same way with my current bf *of four years now ^_^* and I was severely shy, I would look at him, if he looked at me, I would look away pretending I didn't etc etc. The typical shy person deal. One day we were all hanging out *he and I had mutual friends* and since he wasn't shy, he took initiative. Spoke to me, and later on we hit it off and started as a couple. I suppose, next time you are all hanging out, just start talking to him, if it worked vice versa for me, it should work for you. ^_^ Good luck :D
