Shaving bikini area and got red bumps

Question Posted Saturday September 1 2012, 2:11 am

Red bumps occurred about 2 weeks after shaving bikini area and not sure what it is a rash but itches like crazy. Tried many things but it doesn't seem to want to go away. The hair is starting to grow back is that why it is so itchy?

Sounds like razor burn. Not all razors are made alike especially if you are using your dad or brothers razor. If you are going to shave you need to have your own razor made for a woman, there is a difference in how the head of the razor is angled and how the blade is constructed.

Wash the area to be shaved first, then apply some shaving gel or cream before shaving. When finished apply a good skin conditioner and rinse your razor under hot water, then dry and store it until your next use it.

While you and your mother have similar needs for a razor you should have your own razors just as father and son have their own razors, this is simple hygiene.

There is not much that can be done about the itching. This will happen as the hair grows back. Continued shaving will relieve that to a degree. When shaving let the razor do the work. In other words don't press down. This will help with the razor burn. If you have to press hard to shave it means the blade is dull and you need to change blades. Using a good skin conditioner should help with any razor burn.

If the rash continues then you may need to see a doctor as it is something other than a razor burn. Possibly an allergic reaction to the cream or skin conditioner.

Shaving your pubic area has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with hygiene so talking with mom about this should not be an embarrassment. Would you be embarrassed to talk to your mom about shaving your under arms. I don't think so. Just because this area is close to your vagina; shaving there has nothing to do with sex so you should be able to talk freely with mom or dad if you wanted too.

As my screen name implies I am a male. While I do not have any daughters I do act as a father to two nieces. I have told them and they have come to me with questions when they have them. Dads do know about these things. Remember we live and sleep with our childrens mothers so we learn about many things as life goes on.

The hair growing back could be one of the issues, but something else could be that you have razor burn. These are itchy and unsightly red bumps along your bikini line and anywhere else you may have shaved. They come from the skin being too dry and then irritating it by shaving with a dull or dry razor. Next time you shave, be sure to apply lotion before and after you shave, and use shaving cream. If they keep returning, you may be having an allergic reaction to something. In which case, you should phone your doctor or talk to your mom or someone.

Hope I helped :)
